We had been looking forward to our first Christmas break at Ty Mawr since last summer and were certainly not disappointed. From the moment we walked into reception to be greeted warmly by David (and Busta!), we knew were were going to enjoy a perfect Christmas. Hosts Gill and David are a superb partnership, with Gill working her magic in the kitchen so that every meal was perfectly presented and of outstanding quality. Christmas lunch will not be forgotten for a long time!! David and Gill are great supporters of local suppliers from whom they source much of their produce and even gins and beers! David, with his calm manner and sense of humour is in his element as front of house. This small Grade II period country hotel has a very warm, relaxed, informal atmosphere and was seasonally decked throughout, with a cosy log burner in the spacious, homely lounge. Nothing is too much for the hosts and we were very touched to receive a generous surprise parcel from Santa outside our room on Christmas morning. The ensuite bedrooms are very well appointed, with views over the garden and quiet village. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have slept in! We would highly recommend a stay at Ty Mawr any time of year, since the garden with a meandering stream would be stunning in spring and summer. There are plenty of opportunities to walk and visit nearby nationally renowned gardens and historical sites. With only six double rooms available we would recommend early booking to avoid disappointment! We will certainly return.
