It has potential, as a hostel, but as I paid for an ”individual apartment” I didn't like it. I received, about 15 days before I left, that the YHA, which I had booked, had changed ownership, but that NOTHING WOULD CHANGE IN THE RESERVATION. I arrived at 3:00 PM, coming from a long trip from Edinburgh, with a stop and a walk in Newcastle, with the plan of arriving at the ”hotel”, taking a shower and going out to explore the city. To my surprise, check-in was only at 4:00 PM. In other words, what was stipulated when I made my reservation had already changed (YHA)... And I had to wait in a kind of reception/snack bar on site. When I mentioned it to a boy at reception, he even ironically replied, ”only at 4, sorry”! I also had a setback because I was unable to print proof of payment on the card, which I later received by email. Anyway, the apartment is even good for a hostel/hotel (I stayed alone). However, the night is a hell of a noise. And make no mistake, the music that plays on the ”iconic Beatles street”, and that can be heard from the room, is of the worst quality, in addition to the shouting ”typical of bar areas” in a medium/large city. Finally, and without me knowing, the reception/snack bar closes from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM, and you have to enter through a strange door at the back of the establishment. And, if that wasn't enough, when I left, at around 6:30 AM, the ”hall in front of that door” was a legitimate urinal. Anyway, when I saw that it had changed ownership, and received notification from Booking, I ended up not changing hotels. But I should have done that, as it really felt more like a ”casual bar” that hosts on the upper floors, than a hotel; I knew it was also a hostel, but as I paid ”the price of a hotel for an individual apartment”, I would have preferred to have stayed somewhere more professional and even courteous... The Castle Collection - 25 Castle Street

My husband and I stayed at 42 Castle Street in September 2022 and liked it so much that we booked with Castle Collection again. This time (May 2023 ) we stayed in 25 Castle Street (flat 12) and it was so grotty that we had to go out and buy cleaning products from Tesco’s (they only supply dishwashing liquid). It was actually an adventure of discovery. There was dried up vomit on the lounge suite, (nice and crunchy) the bed head and wall to the left of it had some liquid drip stuff on it ( came off with disinfectant wipes), the walls were filthy, (more liquid drips, so I can only assume that a lot of drinking/ puking must have taken place. The skirting boards had stains and black grime, ( sadly, they defeated me and my myriad of cleaning products) the cushions had liquid/vomit stains and the carpet was so gross I didn’t want to imagine what had gone on in the past. As for the view… well, the windows had bird crap all over them from the derelict building next door, which has more than its share of pigeons and their nests. If you leave any window open to let fresh air in, (it’s stuffy) the pigeons try to get in. They do tend to be somewhat noisy, but ear plugs fixed that. You get the odd seagull crapping, too, but I guess they decided that there’s no need to try and clean the windows, as there’s nothing to see anyway. I realise that that the building and birds are not Castle Collection’s fault, but they’re advertising ‘luxury apartments‘ and to be honest, this apartment made me feel uncomfortable and because it was so grotty, I avoided it as much as possible, and I was there for eight nights! Anyway, I managed to clean the vomit off the lounge and the drips off the bed head and wall, but the living room wall and skirting boards defeated me as they were too ingrained. Okay, it was straight after Eurovision, but really? I am a frequent visitor to Liverpool, as am originally from Liverpool and live in Australia, and I thought the Castle Collection was a great place - umm, no. So disheartening. Anyway, the positives - great location and communication regarding access etc was really efficient and friendly. Really easy access. Number 42 Castle St has a lift, but number 25 doesn’t. Car park nearby with discount rates.

Obviously we read the good & bad reviews. In my opinion this is a modern hotel with good sized rooms, friendly helpful staff and a nice (small) pool with a sauna & gym. 30% discount on the secure parking at the Q parking opposite was good too. Location in the city centre just on the edge of the L1 shopping eating and drinking area is good too. We were on the 6th floor which was lovely and quiet. There are a few oddities like the separate loo & shower/wash hand basin room facility (didn’t bother us), slightly disobedient lifts and a few minor broken items/scratches etc. Nothing worth moaning about for us. We caught a lucky deal at £65 for the night so value was really good.

First time staying in this type of accommodation and were very pleased. Room great, amazing location with so much nearby and we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go from here (train station, University, tours, shopping, restaurants) while feeling completely safe. Reception staff were so friendly and made us feel very comfortable. Suite had everything we wanted and was so quiet even though it overlooked the street. Hope to stay here again soon as we loved it and would highly recommend to others. PS: Nicky - ”Buzzer man” from Canada says Hi.

I suppose I am biased but being a Beatle fan just entering the hotel was amazing. The artwork by Shannon, statues, photos, jukebox etc. were simply magical. As for the room...perfect. Nice touch having sparkling water in a fridge. Staff very helpful, friendly and professional
