We stayed at The Litton for a wedding and I can only say that it was a 5 star experience from beginning to end. Absolutely charming staff who couldn’t do enough for us, nothing was too much trouble. We were travelling with a 12 week old puppy and he was made completely welcome. Chef even boiled an egg for him! The room was really clean with everything you could need and a very comfy bed. We had dinner the first night which was absolutely delicious and not overpriced. We had a ‘groom’s pre-match lunch’ before the wedding and the staff were amazing. Really can’t recommend The Litton highly enough. It is most definitely a destination and worth a visit.

We came here for Sunday lunch. Our first impression is that it’s more like a sprawling hotel than a traditional country pub. Open and spacious, rather than cosy. It’s modern and well appointed with ample parking and plenty of uncrowded tables. The staff are pleasant, helpful, and accommodating. The cask ales were nice, but mine was a bit cloudy and maybe overcooled. It tasted fine. The gochujang belly pork we had for starter was tasty and unctuous, but very rich and could have done with something to mop up, or cut through, the copious fat of the pork belly. The roast beef dinner was huge, and the meat itself was perfectly cooked and melt in the mouth tender. The Yorkshire puddings were also huge and a nice mixture of airy and chewy. However, all the trimmings: the vegetables, the potatoes, and the gravy, were almost devoid of seasoning. This seems to be a modern tendency, but it ruins the food, in my opinion. Also, the roast potatoes were really not very good. They were not much more than boiled potatoes with a thin skin. I had toffee cheesecake for dessert, which was very nice.

Not what we were expecting, let's say much bigger. Ample safe parking. Busy, so probably worth booking. That said, all in very good order decoratively, but tables and chairs mismatched in height and a little uncomfortable. Great welcome and knowledgeable service from Ollie, and all staff friendly. Something for everyone on the menu, great range of cask ales, lagers, ciders and bottled beers. Commuted wine list, but okay. Food served on hot plates, lovely salad and veg, nicely slow cooked pork, different, but beautifully tender and quite delicious. Price: 2 people, three beers, bottle of wine and water, sub £100, so all good. Look forward to the rematch!!!

Stayed here three nights. Room very well appointed, clean and fresh and comfortable with high quality bed. Would have preferred the window opening to be less restricted though. The breakfasts were good, efficiently served and cooked to order. My evening meals were not quite up to scratch unfortunately. The bocconcini and heritage salad should have had pink onion but came with a large ordinary pickled onion which spoiled the flavours. Shame! My salmon with puréed cauliflower and chorizo with “green oil” was a very wet dish and tasteless. I left most of it. No idea what the green oil was; dill, parsley or Duckhams 20/50? I also had the fish and chips which had undercooked stodgy inedible batter and greasy chips. I ate the fish itself which was actually just right. On all these matters I commented to the waiting staff at the time and did get an apology for the fish. On the plus side my duo of lamb was perfect and the desserts affogato and treacle sponge also excellent. All the staff were pleasant, efficient and attentive. Would have been five stars without the food mishaps.

There has been a real shift in how well the restaurant kitchen and service team are run in the past few months, making the Litton well worth a visit for meals now compared to our previous visit 2 years ago. The food is excellent and good value and the service is great - very friendly, attentive and helpful.

A wonderful lunch in a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere. A huge thank you to Cat for being so lovely and looking after us, making my mother's 80th birthday so special. The food was beautifully fresh and so carefully prepared. Thank you so much. Looking forward to our next visit.

We stayed here for four nights while exploring Somerset. Most of the guests were English couples and families. We had dinner here twice and it was quite good. The hotel gets very busy in the summer so reservations for dinner are recommended. Our room had the most incredible hanging lamps covered in feathers. See picture.

We wanted this place to be as good as the reviews but regrettably the meal we had was shockingly bad. Sunday roast beef billed as “pink” came way over cooked, tasteless and leathery tough. The sign of a kitchen who have no clue is a failed Sunday roast. Not only was the meat awful every other element was cheap and nasty. The 2 (!) roast potatoes were soft. Industrially uncooked. The veg was a dish of greens that were so overcooked the colour was green grey. Impossible to eat. The Yorkshire pudding was flat, burnt on the edge and dry cardboard texture. Finally, the gravy was low grade powdered or granular, over thick and made what was on the plate even more inedible. The smell was horrible. This is a clue to how this kitchen functions. Not a single person can be bothered to make or spend that little extra on real gravy. The second main dish was the “large” size fish and chips. The chips were ok but they used cheap potatoes so they tasted mostly of frying oil. The fish was not large and the batter was dark brown. I attach a picture of my leavings. Also ratio of batter to fish was a joke. All the sauces were the cheapest slimy type made mostly of sugar and vinegar. We both felt sick after this meal. Another feature of this pub is that it is like a busy railway station. Large car park packed with cars. The buildings packed with families inside and out. No doubt some people are after that buzz (with life size plastic Disney type character covered in graffiti where we were sat) but if you want a cozy or quiet country pub you will need to look elsewhere. Each member of staff was really decent, helpful, efficient and sweet. We didn’t complain and leave partly for that reason and partly because doing so ruins the day. And we were starving.
