Horsted Place Hotel

We booked a two night stay (superior room) with Secret Escapes - the deal included breakfast and dinner on both nights and a complimentary drink from the bar on night one ( I chose champagne). We were visiting a relative who lives locally. Ahead of the stay I spoke and emailed reception to book a table for ourselves and our relative each evening. This was efficiently dealt with and confirmation received via email. The hotel and grounds are in a beautiful setting just outside Uckfield. The hotel has recently undergone a refresh so expect new carpets, soft furnishings and an updated restaurant - it felt that the refresh had a contemporary feel that worked with the history of the building. Our room was very comfortable with a huge superking bed with good linens. The room was well appointed with tea and coffee making facilities, biscuits and complimentary still and sparkling water and this was generously replenished both days. Housekeeping was discreet and efficient.The toiletries were plentiful and of a good quality. I think for us it was the peace and ambience that we enjoyed (we stayed on a Monday and Tuesday - it may be a different feel at the weekend if a wedding was being held). There is ample seating outside to enjoy the weather. I have to commend the chef and their team for the food. It was really delicious and beautifully presented. If I have one criticism the wine is quite pricey…. Expect £50 for a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. All in all a lovely stay and a great deal from Secret Escapes and Horsted Place.

Staff were not welcoming or friendly throughout the afternoon tea experience. Sandwiches were dry and the egg mayo was served in a mini brioche, the two did not work together. Scones were delicious and an amazing lemon curd. Good selection of teas and coffees. Would not return due to staff and the high cost of an average afternoon tea.

Lovely hotel, staff are excellent, fantastic service. Breakfast was first class and waitress was very attentive. Beds were very comfortable, lovely espa toiletries and good shower. Bar staff were very good and having a drink over looking the grounds was very relaxing.

Thanks to everyone at Horsted Place for another very enjoyable two night stay over Easter. Bruno and his team in the new restaurant were super efficient in serving excellent food throughout. Elleesha's front of house team were welcoming, personable and attentive as always. We enjoyed the experience of eating in the newly decorated, light and airy former lounge: we appreciated the views over the garden and the improvement upon the old Parva restaurant, which has become the lounge; also tastefully re-decorated in identical manner. Our fears about how the changes would alter the character of Horsted Place have proved to be unfounded. We understand (reference other comments) that this is 'work in progress' and that the old, well worn lounge furniture is already being sent away piece by piece for re-upholstering. We greatly look forward to seeing the final results at a future stay.

Don't eat at Horsted place if you have an allergy, we gave them due notice that 1 of us was dairy free and no fat diet, the only main course was fish but they could not serve it with any vegetables or potato course that was in accordance with my allergy, on top of that all they could offer was stewed apple for a desert, this is disgraceful for a restaurant of this standard. On top of that there is nowhere to have a pre-lunch drink, or coffee as the drawing room has been changed and is now residents only, we did NOT leave a service charge and we will not eat there again.

We booked through secret escapes which included a nights accommodation, pre dinner cocktail, dinner and breakfast. The staff were really friendly and attentive The room was spacious and really comfortable, bed a little bit hard for our preference. Our only slight gripe was with some of the food for dinner. We were disappointed to find that there was not an option of green vegetables as a side, this would have perfectly complemented our main courses. My wife’s dessert of apple crumble was the biggest let down food wise, just some stewed apples with a sprinkle of crumbs on top. Breakfast was lovely and really tasty. We really enjoyed our stay and it was lovely to get away for the night in such a beautiful setting.

We really enjoyed another stay at Horsted Place through Secret Escapes. We were warmly welcomed on arrival by Charlie who showed us to our 'Tower Suite' that was very comfortable and had fantastic views of the grounds. We enjoyed our meals in the Pava restaurant and were exceptionally cared for by Bruno the manager and both Lottie and Charlie. They're exceptional staff who are friendly,professional and make you feel welcomed. We enjoyed the Gammon and Pork meals that were of very high quality,quantity and presentation. Praise must go to the chef and his staff for providing a meal of excellent quality. It was nice to meet up again with the hotel manager and to be updated on the changes since our last visit. Breakfast was very enjoyable and thank you to our waitress who looked after us. It was a shame having to depart but we are already looking to book another visit in the very near future.

What a delightful place to stay the night. Service excellent from check-in to departure. We had the Tower suite with exceptional views of the countryside, spacious and spotlessly clean. The meal in the evening was well presented on hot plates and our package included a glass of chilled champagne prior to dinner. Breakfast is served at the table rather than the typical buffet style and the choice was extensive. The hotel does not have health spa facilities but just a mile away is the East Sussex National Club where you can use the facilities free of charge. We particularly liked the fact the hotel is independent and not branded to a chain of hotels. The hotel is undergoing a refurbishment programme so not all areas are finished but it's still amazing. Would thoroughly recommend for couples or those looking for a quiet stay away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. (well done to the manager).

Wonderful stay at this lovely hotel which is steeped in history. We booked via Secret Escapes which included a cocktail, 3 course dinner, bed and breakfast. The food was delicious, varied menu choice with an option to pay a supplement for additional dishes, the wine was a bit pricey, starting at £30. We stayed in 'Myers' which was a double on the ground floor overlooking the garden. Comfy bed, good shower, fan, plenty of hangers and a seating area. The staff were amazing, friendly, knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble, thank you for looking after us!
