I booked The Poplars as it was rated highly on various review sites and my wife and I just wanted a stop over for just one night. It fitted the bill as we wanted to be close to the Cathedral. We were welcomed by Cassia, and she was very helpful in showing us the room and explained about everything we may possibly need. The B&B is boutique/unique and the decor which is kept in pretty good order, reflects this. Our room was on the first floor and it was comfortable with period furniture. The en-suite was behind an almost ‘secret door’ as the door was wall-papered the same as the walls in the room. A tad quirky, yet fun and practical. The en-suite was ultra modern, so it was completely different to the bedroom. Again, a surprise yet not unpleasant. The shower was electric but powerful enough to serve its purpose. It did need a little adjustment, periodically, to keep it upright as it kept slipping in it’s mounting. Not the biggest problem in the world right now, just saying… The B&B is situated in an area surrounded by considerable steep hills and you need to take this into consideration. Personally, I enjoyed the workout! Also, the driveway up to The Poplars off the road is quite narrow and steep. If you aren’t a confident driver this could be an issue to you, but then again, for the vast majority of drivers, it just needs a little care and it will not be a problem. Breakfast was very enjoyable and the staff are very friendly and efficient with getting your order to you. You note down on the form provided your breakfast choices, the night before, and they collect your order from your door. It is a well run establishment, and Martin, the owner, does try very hard to ensure your stay is as welcoming as possible.
