I was on a business trip and accompanied by my wife. This is one of the worst hotels we have stayed in our life. The room that we were allocated had one cup- no saucer, one towel in the bathroom, 2 coat hangers. When I tried to call reception, the phone had no cord. There was no refrigerator, the kettle did not work and the WiFi was poor and often down. I went to reception and insisted on a different room. The lady from housekeeping was helpful and arranged two cups but only on saucer, and at least gave us two envelopes of coffee - no milk. The floor staff are friendly but my feeling is that they have no training in hotel hospitality. This includes the reception staff. There are two restaurants. a Chinese Restaurant and a "Western Restaurant" both served from the same kitching. Breakfast is served in the Western Restaurant. For breakfast there is very basic, cereals, fruit juices and milk straight from the box, a choice of hard-boiled eggs, fried eggs or omelletes (scrambled eggs with chopped tomato, union and chillies). One morning there was also the option to add a sheet of processed cheese. There were a selection of hot dishes; sausages, fried tomatoes, pumpkin, corn on the cob, baked beans, left-over stir fry from the previous evening, beef samoosas or spring rolls. I can carry on about the disasters that were dinner but will stop here. Stay away unless you have no other choice.

Rooms smell of smoke, weak AC, roaches in the bathroom, shower heads not placed properly so water goes everywhere. Rooms not well cleaned. Poorly maintained, stained carpets and walls. Low quality fittings and furnishings in a state of disrepair. Dingy towels with stains. Sheets with tears. Many items from rooms missing, Probably stolen by prior guests. Iron is in the hallway for all to share as they get stolen if left in the room. Staff are not trusted by the management. They lock the beer fridges in the bar during the managers lunch break, so you can't get a drink at that time. Staff not well trained or motivated. There are many nicer, smaller hotels and lodges in Lilongwe to stay at with character. This is definitely not a four star, more like a one-star. It is desperately in need of fumigation and a full refurbishment.
