Red Stone Hills

I've stayed at Red Stone Hills several times in the past 15 years, and always enjoyed it. Returning now, my sense was that a lot of effort has been made to improve the offering, and that standards are improved. We had booked for Ostrich as there were only two of us, but were upgraded to Red Rock. Wonderful reception but the owner, and came to check on us later although we were out walking. The house had everything we needed, and firewood was available, although we had forgotten fire-lighters, so we were given some complimentary firelighters. We really wanted for nothing, the new solar electricity and inverter worked a treat. I would recommend Red Stone Hills to anyone anting self-catering in the Calitzdorp area.

We stayed in one of the original cottages on the farm. The original features beautifully preserved. There was plenty of space & beds comfortable. We opted for 2 dinner meals & a breakfast & they were all tasty & had plenty to eat. The farm is so beautiful with those red stones of different shapes & sizes, especially early in the morning. We explored as much as we could & drove a circular route through Kruis Rivier, past the Cango Caves to Oudthoorn & back. We found hidden valleys with the Poplar trees leaves all turning yellow. So beautiful.

Great cottage right next to the interesting red hills. We did a short scramble up into the hills, but there are longer laid-out routes. Great option and close to the R62. You can drive to the Cango caves via an alternative and very beautiful route.

Thank you, Petro and staff for a fabulous stay at Ostrich Cottage. The cottage was spotlessly clean, well equipped and obviously well maintained. The surrounding mountains and views were breathtaking and we enjoyed some nice walks. We would love to return one day!

We had a wonderful stay; our hostess Petro did everything to make our stay a comfortable and pleasant one. Beautiful location. We loved the history of the farm and all the buildings which were converted into holiday cottages. Beautiful views and so peaceful. Will definitely be returning. Thank you Petro

Although it was far from my work place, it was a good place overall. Slightly out of town and main road. Good gravel road leading to the Lodge. Hiking spot in the mountains. ideal for watching for sunrise

Especially we liked the cottage’s atmosphere and the food to brai on our own, delivered to the cottage. Also Petro made us feel at home and we liked being in nature and having time to relax. This is one of the accommodations we would choose again out of several others we have tried in the Western Cape within our last two holidays there.

The surrounding hills are majestic and beautiful. We spent a night in Red Rock cottage which had an amazing view of the landscape and had everything we could wish for. Load shedding wasn't an issue and we had fantastic wifi. I hope to return and spend a few more days in that beautiful part of the country. Petro also advised us of an alternate route to the Swartberg pass, which was breathtaking and filled with birds and glorious vistas -such an unexpected bonus. Thanks Petro.

Beautiful nature and peaceful accommodation. Red stone hills is certainly worth while to visit. Houses clean and equiped with everything you need. Very nice hiking trails close by. Friendly staff who makes you feel welcome and a swimming pool to cool of.
