Hôtel Saint Nicolas La Rochelle

We loved our stay at this hotel! The service was excellent through out our stay and they helped us with many issues, like with transportation getting to Île de Re by bus etc. The hotel is renovated in an old building with taste. The rooms are quite small and corridors zigzaggy, but if you don’t mind that, the aesthetics are beautiful, everything is modernized inside and the rooms small but compact with coffee and tea makers (no minifridge tho). The breakfast was lovely and had high quality ingredients. The selection is not so wide but we found it perfectly good and tasty and the breakfast room cozy with a whole wall made of glass, so full of beautiful sunlight at sunrise. Also the lobbybar is cute and the terrace outdoor at the little square in front of the hotel just perfect to sit in before leaving for dinner. Our hotelrooms were towards the inner courtyard so they were very quiet. The mattress was perfect, not too soft, not too hard on the back. The location of the hotel was perfect. In the older part of La Rochelle, but away from the worst touristy spots. Walking distance (like 5 mins) from the old port and the maaany restaurants lining the old port’s streets. Also less than a minute away is a nice square with a tree with several lovely cafes and restaurants. Next to said square is an alley lines with cute boutiques with local artsy memorabilia etc. In same block with hotel is a small grocerystore. Warmly recommended and will definately return here if travel back to La Rochelle (which was a lovely place to visit with three pensioners).

We stayed here for our 50th wedding anniversary and what a great choice it turned out to me. Recently renovated, this boutique hotel shows great attention to detail. The Junior suite was spotless and the bed supremely comfortable - extra long beds for those who struggle with the standard size. Large walk in shower and high end fittings. Large choice of breakfast, including scrambed eggs, crispy bacon pieces etc. and the usual patisserie, cereals, fruit, cheese, charcuterie. Something for everyone whatever their taste. Three things I noticed in La Rochelle - bikes, scooters and suitcases on wheels while folks trekked the distance from their hotel to the large public car parks. Icing on the cake - private parking inside the hotel - not many of those choices in La Rochelle so close to the old port. Staff were friendly and helpful. Thoroughly recommended.

This is very nice hotel but not really ‘boutique’ as described. Our room was well appointed but very small. Everything quite minimalist. Breakfast was self service and extra, more expensive than local cafe’s though a decent selection. The big plus is the location near the port and bars, restaurants etc. Parking is limited and chargeable and you need to book on advance in busy periods. Would recommend.

What a wonderful hotel from start to finish! We stayed in a family suite and it was so comfortable and beautifully styled, with an extremely comfortable bed! We received a wonderfully warm welcome on arrival and special marks to the fabulous breakfast. Great staff, very friendly throughout and a perfect location, just walking distance from the old town. We will definitely be back!

Great communication from when we booked. Dog friendly and car parking onsite all very helpful. Lovely welcome. Room was very clean and tidy. The bed was amazing had a great night sleep. Breakfast was delicious and had a great selection. Went to restaurant in the square behind Le Panier de Crabes. The food was amazing so fresh. There is a wonderful food market 10 minutes walk. Amazing produce. Can’t recommend enough.

This is a lovely hotel situated close to the old port area in La Rochelle. Our room was spotlessly clean with a very comfortable bed. All restaurants, bars etc within a short walk. There is a quiet area in front of the hotel with seating; a lovely place to enjoy the sunshine. Would happily stay here again.

It is years since our last visit. This time we were in the building across the courtyard from the main hotel. Our room was very spacious and comfortable with adequate storage, a good shower and secure access. There was an issue with the plug in the basin which I reported on day 1 , but was never fixed. There was no fridge, which is unusual, but not a problem for us on this occasion.. Good choice at breakfast. Quality products. Fair choice at the bar. You can sit outside in the courtyard or inside on a comfortable chair.

Lovely hotel right in the centre of the old port of La Rochelle. Couldn’t fault anything. The position was fantastic and within easy reach of many good restaurants. Staff were really friendly and would happily return. Internal decor is tasteful and modern - so refreshing for a French hotel.

Lovely place to stay. The exterior is an old plain looking building but inside it’s thoroughly modern. Wonderfully friendly welcome from the front desk. Room was spotless and comfortable. Not huge but really well designed. Slept well both nights in the comfortable bed. Wasn’t troubled by any noise at all. Breakfast was well presented and a great choice of food. Again staff were friendly and welcoming. A short walk to the harbour with its bars and restaurants, but in a quiet location. Really couldn’t fault this hotel or the staff.
