UPDATED REVIEW: In view of contact from Richard at the hotel we have decided to complete a reflected review, as we were very impressed with the response from the hotel and their eagerness to improve the customer experience. We visited for one night and booked a standard room. It was big and generally very clean, but a little tiered in places, something the hotel is aware of and keen to rectify. The Spa is a tranquil place to relax and again, in need of some minor TLC in places. Richard assured us they will be making improvements to some of the furnishings and reviewing the drinks ordering process, which is currently through an intercom. We opted to eat in the Brasserie and whilst the food was ok, the setting wasn’t quite fitting of the beautiful hotel and it was good to hear about the plans to refurbish as this could be a hidden gem alternative to the main restaurant. Breakfast was cooked and of a good standard with plenty of options, and the setting in the main restaurant allows far reaching views. The hotel itself is spectacular and the surrounding countryside and lake view is equally impressive. The hotel helped us decide on a location walk and had plenty of handy guides. Overall staff worked really hard and although the receptionist (when we arrived) seemed to be operating on her own, was friendly and really helpful with all requests. This place is worth a visit and good…it could be great and Richard’s reach out to us personally signalled intent to continue to improve. The gesture was not lost on us and it will be interesting to see if the hotel honours this. Give it a go.

I would highly recommend a stay at Armathwaite Hall Hotel. The location is superb with stunning views over Bassenthwaite Lake. The Spa staff could not have been more helpful and the facilities were excellent. The food was delicious (especially the vegetarian options) and the waiting staff were extremely helpful and attentive. Special mention should go to Richard, the deputy manager who went out of his way to ensure gests were having a wonderful time

Went for a quiet retreat with my husband and stayed overnight. Had a fabulous meal and five star service. Felt like royalty. We had a beautiful room overlooking the lake and grounds. They even gave us a glass of champagne on arrival. Our food was Michelin star standard and we made sure compliments went back to the chef. The serving staff made us feel like royalty and I thought they were going to courtesy at one stage. They couldn’t do enough and were so polite. Our choice of food for that evening was scallops to start followed by chateaubriand which melted in our mouth. We were given complimentary butternut squash soup to start which again we couldn’t fault. Our room was a large suite with a balcony overlooking the grounds and lake. The balcony came with two rattan recliners and comfy cushions. Could have stayed there all day. Room was very clean and fresh. Again can’t fault anything. Just want to say a massive thank you to all staff for making our one day and overnight so special. We’ll certainly be returning and highly recommend this beautiful venue for all occasions whether young or old. I’ve been to the queens garden party at Buckingham palace in the past and felt Armethwaite hall had a much better service and staff. Definitely 5 star treatment which made me feel like a queen for the day. THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND COMPLIMENTS ALL ROUND *****

Had a fantastic weekend break with my husband and 87 year old parents. Everything about this place is great. Both couples had garden suites which had lovely views of the lake and were very well appointed. Exceptional customer service and would be hard to single out one person as all were at the right level of attentive. Dinner was included and did not disappoint with wide choice and high quality. Can’t wait to return.

Booked a table for 9 for my mum and dad's 60th wedding anniversary. I had to amend th e original booking and the deputy GM Richard was very helpful. We had an evening meal and the food was superb. They looked after mum and dad and all of us (6 adults and 3 children) and made us feel special. An amazing experience in a winderful environment. Highly recommended.

Last minute booking to celebrate our 39th anniversary. Warm welcome from the reception and waiting staff. Brilliant view of the lake and fells from the table. Service was perfect as was the the afternoon tea. Well worth it. Highly recommended.

Speaking on behalf of myself and my family, our time was well spent in the Armathwaite Hall Hotel and Spa. From the massage treatments, the spa facilities, the amazing food and wonderful staff, we walked away with both smiles and frowns on our faces, as we had such an lovely time that we didn't want to leave so soon. The resident cat was also a delight. A massive thank you to Richard and his tremendous staff, we most definitely plan to visit again.
