Our room was across the road from the main building and reception desk. The check-in person was courteous and helpful. Parking is limited and we parked right up against the main building, only a few feet from the highway. So, great access to the highway! Our room was another story. It was very outdated, old, very small and crowded for two people. In much need of some updated renos, to at least modernize the room. The bathroom was also very small. They have you, because there isn't anything else around, and because of that, we were grateful to be able to get a room. It is peaceful and quiet, though, in John O'Groats, which is really nice. The saving grace for the hotel was our dinner in the bar. The food was very good. The Cullen Skink is very good, that was our first time eating Cullen Skink and certainly wasn't our last time during our tour of Scotland. What a great soup! The Sticky Toffee Pudding and the Cheesecake were also very good. The breakfast, which is included, was also good, and included hot and/or cold menu items. The road out to Duncansby Head is only a stone's-throw away from the hotel. That is where you walk through a meadow of sheep to beautiful views of "The Stacks", which are tall rock formations, separated from the cliffs. Worth the drive and the walk.
