The hotel is old and historic with friendly staffs, handsome manager. The full breakfast is satisfactory and excellent as well. Don’t miss the seafood dinner at the hotel, which is offered at a reasonable price. You should definitely spend a night here for the dinner.

We loved our stay at Port Askaig Hotel. They saved us after our camping and cycling trip became very rainy! The barman welcomed us with open arms and soon we were eating big burgers and drinking cold pints. Our room was beautiful and overlooked the port so we could see the comings and goings of the little boats, which we loved. Our night ended with hot deep bath and long sleep in our warm comfy bed! The full Scottish breakfast the next morning was the cherry on the cake, and put a spring in our step for more rainy cycling. Thank you so much for such a special stay!

Trip advisor Port Askaig From PS Market Harborough Visit : 30 June to 2nd July Summary This hotel is very shabby. Many things in the room did not work. It is vastly overpriced ( £205 per night) and has a no refund policy. Overall appearance and parking We stayed in this hotel several times over 20years ago. Since then, it has markedly deteriorated . I was shocked at the peeling paint and the neglected appearance. Car parking was limited. There used to be a large covered carport at the rear. This had clearly become unsafe as the central steel support had rotted though and the car port was filled with pallets and scrap wood. Room heating. I stayed in a room called Mull. The day time temperature at the end of June was only 11 degrees . The room had secondary double glazing but two of the outer windows were wedged open. The room was cold. The two Dimplex oil filled radiators did not work. The fan heater did not work. After complaining an electrician was requested. He found the thermal overloads of the heaters had both tripped. The fan heater had a safety device fitted so it could not be used on carpet and had to be used on a hard surface. Lighting The lights above the bed did not work . The electrician discovered this was a switching problem which he fixed. The light above the bathroom sink did not work. The lighting tube had failed and the electrician did not have a spare. TV The TV did not work with the comment on the screen reading” no signal”. The electrician could not fix the TV. Food The breakfast was good , the bar meals were mediocre. The UHT milk in the room had become sour. Consequently the tea tasted horrible. Action taken by Owners. When the room defects were reported to reception an electrician was sent to the room. I had intended to stay 5nights. Calmac cancelled sailings for spurious reason at the very last minute after I had driven 500miles By then I was staying in a hotel close to the Kennacraig ferry terminal . As a consequence of ferry cancellations and rebooking by Calmac I arrived in Islay 2 days late and had to leave a days early. I telephoned the Port Askaig hotel as soon as I knew the new sailing times so they knew of the ferry problems and they knew I would arrive 2 days late.I had paid in advance for 5 nights. Initially reception refused any refund .However in a note pushed under my room door late at night on 1st July , the owner offered to cancel meal charges (£50.50) and as a good will gesture offered to refund I night stay. She requested my credit card details again . I had paid initially with Mastercard and the hotel must have had these details in file. On the morning of departure I could find no one in reception prior to my departure at 9am to whom I could give my credit card details again.. I suspect a refund will not happen . Recommendations Do not go to Islay. Currently there is no ferry to Port Askaig as work is being done to the Pier. It will reopen in January 2025. But at the s

I’m sorry to write this review but places like this make me angry . They have the most beautiful setting but they take no pride in their hotel . We decided to eat outside although it was quite cold because inside was too depressing. A vase of dead roses in green water sitting on the serving hatch will give you an idea of what I mean ! The lady serving was curt and had no hospitality skills whatsoever . She served me drinks and gave me a tray with cutlery then watched me struggle to open door to go outside. Had fish and chips a safe option and it was good .

We didn't stay but stopped for food. We were greeted rudely by a female staff member who seemed offended we were there. She was rude to us from the get go and seemed to despise her job. Apparently the till doesn't split the bill so we were made to count it ourselves and tell her how much we owed. £18 for Scampi, chips and a can of juice, embarrassing. The only thing that must keep this place alive is it's location and the fact it's the only place to eat in Port Askaig. The place is falling to bits inside and out, it's rough as a badgers ****. The food was okay but not worth the cost. The can of Irn-bru was good but I'm pretty sure it wasn't made in house. Poor josh travelled all the way from Somerset and would never return to Scotland due to the disrespectful nature of the only staff member we encountered. The establishment could do with new management and ownership who have the decency not to treat strangers like dirt.

This hotel unfortunately will not be on my list to recommend to others. The location is next to the port askaig. Hotel room: no WiFi in the room. Very old mattress caused my back pain, and old dirty carpet. No amenities other than basic soap and shampoo. Services: the ladies work here are cold and unwelcoming. They wouldn’t offer any help and they looked like hating the visitors. There is an older lady and younger lady both are cold cold. Motel 8 would have been better than this one.

The place is ok. The owner is nice. It is literally right at the port, so that’s convenient. There is nothing there except the port. The hotel is a little tired. If you have a room looking over the water it is very picturesque. Need to at least clean up the mold in the showers.

Stuart was amazing at getting a last minute room for us on Saturday night! The hotel was very cute and pretty impressive! Clean rooms and very comfy bed! Also we loved the bar, don’t change anything about the bar, it’s nice to be transported back in time a little bit. Also breakfast by Euan was delicious! Thank you very much.

Had dinner here the night before catching the ferry home - it's pretty much the only place to eat at the port - and tbh, wasn't expecting much. The place needs a bit of work done and is quite old and faded but it just shows, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover as the food was AMAZING! Genuinely one of the best meals we had during our week on Islay - lovely fresh and crisp battered fish, delicious chips, home-made tartare sauce and a really tasty salad. My husband had the venison burger which looked and tasted amazing. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was obviously all home-made and freshly prepared. It was excellent. I feel for the owners as business must be tough in such a quiet spot but I can highly recommend stopping off here for food before or after a ferry trip.
