Hilltop Lodge and Cabins

We took a short northern Minnesota tour for our anniversary, and found this gem of a motel in International Falls, the owners are a welcoming and friendly couple, rooms are clean, you can see they really take pride in their property, right down to the landscaping in front of the rooms.

Door code was incorrect in first email. A correction was sent, but I missed it before arriving. I was able to find someone in the office and get a correct code. Room was standard for the price. The wifi was really sketchy. It worked best is you stood in the doorway and faced the office.

We'd stayed here in 2022 and had a good experience. We liked the young couple who had purchased the place. The somewhat crudely renovated bathroom I interpreted as evidence of their commitment to the place and their sweat equity. This year we again booked 2 rooms. The electronic door code provided for my wife's and my room was wrong (a 7 digit code). Our kids got a 4 digit code and got in fine. No combo of our 7 digits provided digits worked. I called and used VM to leave a message as instructed. With no return call, we went to dinner. We got our kids into their room; no problem. I went to the office and rang the bell on the counter as the sign instructed. No response. Written instructions gave more #'s and names to call; Maria, Jana, On-site manager Sam. All VM. It took nearly an hour for an apologetic call with a correct code. I understand mistakes happen; but the backup systems here did not work. Also: Our kids found bottles of water in their room. My wife and I did not. The only bath soap provided was "Pumpkin spice"; my fragrance for the night. And before leaving the next morning at 6:30am, I went to the lobby and there weren't muffins, yogurt, fruit and coffee as had been there the prior year. I see that this place is now billed as a "Self Service Hotel" Be on notice.

Easy, convenient, comfortable. Separate rooms great for family. Simple little sitting area was very helpful. Beds were very soft. Close to stores and activities. Location near Voyageurs Natl Park was what we needed. Flex check in was a bonus.

This place is disgusting. We went to check into our motel which we booked online and were VERY disappointed. When we arrived the door to the cabin was open and discovered plumbing equipment in the bathroom along with filthy seat, rubber gloves on floor and foul smells. When we spoke to the lady she said it would not be able to be fixed until the day we would check out. We were not notified about this situation before arriving. No one was attempting to fix it. Thankfully we were able to get accommodations at Cobblestone on a very busy Friday night. Hilltop lodge is falsely advertised and what we saw besides the bathroom was just gross. Nothing as advertised! Thankful for Cobblestone-an excellent motel!

We saw this cute place online. It said you could rent cabins and bikes. It said it had a continental breakfast. We rented online a room. When we got there, the room we were assigned was dirty. No one was on site when we called, the person was in Arizona. She was upset with us because the room wasn't clean. She told us to hold on and she would call us back. We waited in the parking lot. She called back 10 minutes later and she gave us another room. We ended up with 2 different codes to get into the room. The room No bikes were available. It was somewhat cool in International Falls 58F. There was an air conditioner unit in the window, and heat registers on the floor. The heat did NOT work. We had to go to 2 stores to find a small portable heater. The continental breakfast was 2 bottles of 4 oz. water, and 2 Nutrigrain bars. The plus side was there were 6 Keurig cups of coffee and 3 packs of popcorn. The room was somewhat clean. The corners had cobwebs and dust.

This is an ideal motel with cabins to stay at while visiting International Falls and area. Our cabin was perfect for the time we were there. The owners Ryan and Amanda are a great couple with extensive hospitality experience so they know how to treat and take care of customers! We highly recommend that if your coming to I Falls you stay here, you will not be disappointed!

Very cozy little motel run by a nice young couple. Very clean room appears to be recently updated. Tastefully decorated. Our room was game themed but not in an overdone way. I assume other rooms were also themed. Continental breakfast was provided.

We booked this hotel for its reasonable price, and we made an outstanding choice! My husband and I were on a Spyder (motorcycle) trip and planned a stop in International Falls. We wanted a place to stay that was reasonably priced, clean, and easy walking distance to restaurant/bars. This was the place! Great location for us! We easily walked down to the Chocolate Moose for dinner and a beer. We also walked towards the downtown area. Easy walk, new sidewalks and newly surfaced road. Quite a few places to go to if you need gas, adult beverages, food/snacks, and convenience items- Dollar General just a few blocks away. Check in was at 3:00- when the office is open. If you need anything there is a number to reach the front desk for service. (I’m guessing if we wanted to check in early it would NOT have been a problem. The owners are super helpful!) Our room was small- but it was exactly what we needed and had everything we needed. LOVED the bathroom! Newly remodeled and the shower had a great rain shower head. I am bugging my husband about getting one like it. After trying it he agreed it is nice. I didn’t see any shampoo or conditioner- but we had our own. I know if I had needed it I could’ve went to the office for some. Room was clean. Nice small frig to use. A bottle of water was provided. We DID NOT HEAR THE ROAD at night. Super surprised by that since it is quite close. We had the fan running with outside air, so maybe that helped? No matter since once my head hit the pillow I slept great! Very comfortable bed- probably the best sleep I’ve had at a hotel in a long time! (And we travel a lot). I loved the little seating area outside our room. I enjoyed sitting and reading in the sun I liked the property they had several eating and grilling areas. They also have several cabins for longer stays. That maybe something we may have to try out on our next visit! We have family that likes to fish- this would be a great place to stay! The owners are awesome! Any questions or requests are answered right away. We will definitely book again if back in the area.
