Our room was not within the mountain lodge but was instead a very run down room in the Kogen hotel. The room was so bad that we couldn’t stay and had to leave in a blizzard to find alternative accommodation. Other reviews on hotel booking websites suggest it is common practice for the owners to substitute accommodation. We were charged for 2 nights accommodation despite not staying more than 30 minutes. We offered to pay for 1 night but the owner would not offer any refund. Definitely avoid this was a very un-Japanese experience for us

Mark and Mayuko's hospitality is amazing. So super kind and generous. The food, particularly the breakfasts was really good. The blend of the Australian and Japanese really helps one feel at home. Definitely made the whole Madarao mountain experience fantastic. Hopefully more pow next time.

The hosts at mountain lodge are great. They are down to earth and very helpful with everything we needed to finish our snow trip at Madarao. The restaurant and bar was great to eat at and helped make the whole experience even better. We hope to be back and will recommend to our friends.

We came here for dinner and it was a mixed bag. The chicken parmy was not served hot, it tasted as though the chicken had been reheated with the cheese melted on top & the crumb soggy. The fries were too salty. The house red wine was nice & goyza. We’ve had tastier food on the mountain at similar prices.

Our group of 4 were looking for somewhere to eat at Madarao and the Madarao Mountain Lodge was recommended to us and was only a short walk from where we were staying at the Kogen - what a recommendation!!! Mark and Abbi put on a great spread of dishes and Abbi's homemade dessert with the home dried apple was outstanding. We then enjoyed a couple of hours at their cosy bar - and all for a very reasonable price!!! Can't wait to return in 2024 and enjoy more food and fantastic hosts.

Mark and his team at Madarao Mountain Lodge are amazing! If you are thinking of coming to the area definitely stay here! Mark and his wife merge the perfect blend of Aussie and Japan to make every guest feel welcomed! The accommodations were great, the food and hospitality were second to none! Really enjoyed the hot breakfast and coffee each morning, my kids are pickey they had toast and a few cereal Choices as well! For dinner try the dragonroll, fried squid, and a burger…all very yummy. Oh and if you want a great cocktail order the Fuji Fireball = fall in a glass! Highly recommend eating dinner here at least one or 2 nights and go explore the area (walkable) as well. If you need help with equipment or a tune-up Mark and his team will help you out! Look no further bring your family and be treated like family! Couldn’t recommend this place more

Stop shopping, and book your stay with Mark and Abbi. This incredibly welcoming couple owns and operates their fantastic inn situated just a one-minute walk from Madarao's powder and wide variety of terrain. They provide everything you need for a relaxing and fun stay, including Abbi's cooking which is hard to beat. The dinner menu covers everything from bar snacks and burgers to sashimi and soba. Breakfast is also tip-top, there's on-site parking, a big drying room, and their cozy dining room that's the center of fun whether you're traveling with family or a big group of friends.
