Hubertushof is a family-run ‘countryside’ hotel just on the edge of the small town of Ibbenbueren. It is ideally situated for those travelling on the autobahn, to which it is adjacent, but with no perceptible traffic noise. I arrived on a very hot day and was given a substitute room on the ground floor, which was cooler and was supplied with a recirculating fan, though not proper air conditioning. Public spaces on the ground floor were nice and cool, however, and the room opened upon a private terrace garden to the rear, which provided nice cool air at night. The room and bathroom were very spacious and reasonably well modernized, but retained a traditional feel. The bed was comfortable, with those gigantic traditional German pillows that seem to collapse into nothingness when you place your head on them. Breakfast was excellent, with cheeses, charcuterie, a selection of bread-rolls, cereals and a delicious fresh fruit salad, plus good strong tea or coffee. The only slight drawback for me was that the restaurant was not open for dinner, but I strolled into town and bought a take-away from the nearby Asian fusion cafe (ARO), which I also recommend, especially for vegans. The hotel has an associated golf course and seminar rooms, so may be good as a business retreat.
