Well what can I say. Sold as a romantic, luxury, quiet getaway by the sea. None of which could be further from the truth. To start it’s at least a 30 minute walk, if you walk quickly, to the beach, there is a trolly bus that can take you there, but the fact there is one speaks volumes, and drops you off a long walk from the bar and walkway into the sea. If you like organised ‘fun’ and other people’s children then this may be the place for you, if you don’t like an exceptionally multi-cultural holiday experience then this isn’t for you, the clientele is a rich mix of German, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian?, French, English, Egyptian and other Arabic speaking Nationals. All fine in theory, except it doesn’t really work here, it’s not cheap to come here, certainly not by Egyptian average salary standards. So it’s the rich wealthy and entitled locals who come who think it’s fine to blast their music for their tinny telephone speakers (this is not ok from anyone not just locals, it’s not ok from any nationality) , have children screaming - seriously my watch told me I was in a dangerously loud environment today - who have obviously never been told no ever in their lives. And have parents with their children in the bars till 1am, Not appropriate at all. No where is quiet, it’s impossible to escape the animation team during the day form the cavalry charge followed by rooster calls at 10am - I was waiting for a ‘bing bing bing bong - hallo campers’ but was sadly disappointed. Then followed by Adele hour over the PA, then Arabic techno the god knows what for the rest of the day. I’m on Day 5 and I’m desperate for silence. It’s actually making me quite sad. Anyway so that the noise. Our room- well it’s ok, a little sad and in need of updating g, the furniture is faded and chipped, the tiles are lifting and uneven, the rest of the furniture is that dark brown that fell out of favor in the UK in the 1990’s - the beds are comfy enough- we asked for a double got a twin, we were promised a fruit plater twice a week - after asking for it, it arrived yesterday and consisted of two over ripe bananas, an underripe pear, an over ripe mango and a orange that had seen better days. The food - it’s ok I guess the main restaurant is fine - a good selection every night - plenty to choose from - should be something for even the Most picky eaters. We have only used the much vaunted Beirut Lebanese specialty restaurant, the first night we ate at 8:30, we arrived early and I with a pair of sticks was asked to come in. Was given water and beer so so good so far. The starter - hot and cold Mezze were great, but no falafel ? the mains not so Much, over cooked and dry as sticks. All in all - not what we were promised or expecting- but me and the Mrs are creative folks and we will make it work for us. As I write this I’m looking at a dirty used happy in the middle of the subbed area left by my one of the local guests and a bread bun thrown under the bush. Some

We stayed here for two weeks in August. Had a really relaxing time, two adults and two teens. The resort is fairly big, but has lots of different pools to suit everyone. Rooms are spacious, clean and we had two interconnecting rooms which was perfect for us. Had a few issues with our air conditioning but after calls to reception it was sorted really quickly. Showers hot and plentiful, fab towel art each day from the room cleaner. We were all inclusive, food was nice, lots of it. Always found something to eat. A la carte’s were really good, definitely try these if you come. The snack bar during the day was great, pizza etc and then ice cream at 3pm each day which was delicious! Staff in the restaurants are so nice, helped us lots and was the best service I’ve had in a hotel in a long time. Drinks good, waiters were lovely and looked after us well. Would have liked more choice on cocktails but the wine was nice. Entertainment was good, there were different things on each night, but you could sit in other areas if you wanted to play cards etc. no issues with getting a table at all. Dancers were really good, michael Jackson show was fab. Perhaps more English commentary but we were the minority so got why. Didn’t sit by any of the activity pools but could see the entertainment team working hard. Bintoo & Wajdee ( hope I’ve spelt right!) were lovely, Bintoo always came to talk to us, never pushy, told us what was going on and checking we were having a good time. It is very hot in Egypt at this time of year and at times it felt oppressive where the stage was despite the fans. Not sure what you could do about this though. Beach - went to have a look but didn’t really use, seemed to be lots of beds and parasols. Things I would have liked to make our holiday even better - a bar that opened in the evening further down in the resort. It was a bit of a walk up to the main area and somewhere closer to our room would have been nice for a few drinks ls before going to dinner to the a la carte. WiFi - not great, only free in reception and not good when busy. Other five star resorts I’ve been to had free wifi. We bought sims cards but would have been easier to log into hotel wifi. Overall a lovely relaxing time, a smile and a few tips here and there goes a long way.

On arrival our cases were taken and labelled and check in was fast and straight forward, however we arrived at almost midnight with a 10year old after travelling all day and just wanted to get to bed, we were directed to the dining room for food and given a drink, which was lovely but after a long day we were exhausted. Got taken to pur room and the key card wouldn't open the door so the guy took it back to reception to sort while we waited. While we were waiting a man came to the door having been woke by us - rhe room was occupied by him and his family! As we went to let someone know the man arrived with our cases and we told him what had happened, he rang reception and after a short conversation we were taken to a different room. The room only had one double bed in and we were told a single bed for our son would be brought straight along, we waited and waited, husband called reception and was told they would chase it up. It got to 1.30am and we gave up amd all slept in the onee bed - thankfully the double beds are a good size and we all slept quite well. The next day we spoke to reception and a bed was sorted quickly. The room was a good size as was the bathroom, fresh water and towels eft daily, although some days the room was cleaned quote late in the day, one day it was around 5pm our friends a couple of stories up had some lovely towel art, we didn't but this isn't something that really bothered us, although it is a nice touch. The pool area is lovely, with plenty loungers. A lot on sand which can be annoying, if you want a certain spot you do need to get up early, especially if you want to avoid the sand! We spent all holiday at the entertainment pool, I could be very noisy at times as the music is loud so difficult to have a conversation. Staff are lovely and can't do enough for you, we tipped the odd dollar as appreciation but never felt that it was expected. The staff in the lobby bat and restaurant worked hard and made sure our glasses were never empty. Lifeguards were nice, got to know our son and played the odd bit of football with him. But hands down the most hardworking is definitely the entertainment team, spend a lot of time walking around and chatting to guests, getting to know them, involving everyone. They made our holiday that bit more memorable. The only negatives for us was the food and drinks, food was repetitive, not hot and limited choice. We're not fussy eaters and never have an issue with AI foods but we struggled here. We used the indian and Lebanese restaurants and they were both beautiful! The drinks...the alcohol wasn't the best, cocktails all tasted the same, the beer was ok but a couple was enough for me. Drinks are definitely nicer in the lobby bar. 7 of us spent 10 nights here and 3 of us were poorly, started around 5 days in and was on and off for the rest of the holiday, we didn't drink the tap water and were careful with salads and seafood. Half expected to be ill at some point but not for it to lin

Not sure where to start? I don't understand the 5 star reviews, this hotel is definitely not 5 *. Room size great, yes dated but so are most hotels, room cleaner AMAZING shame I can't remember his name but he could not do enough for us! Some of the staff are great very friendly and they are the saving grace for the hotel! Food was not great, we couldn't get into any of the speciality restaurants so can't comment on them. Main buffet restaurant was like an massive canteen :( I think we are quite well travelled but this is the first time we have ever been ill. The vast majority of the sunbeds were broken! at the pool and at the beach! I do not like the fact you cannot use the facilities in the other hotel, I do not think this is explained when booking. This is the first time I have been to an AI hotel where you have to pay extras? Children asking for popcorn and candy floss in the evening during entertainment - PAY, little electric cars for the kids - PAY, fresh juice/fruit on the beach - PAY We had an ok week, we did not pay a lot of money so I suppose got what we paid for. There were a lot of returning guests so I guess some must like it but we would certainly not return.

This hotel does a lot of things really well. The hotel is located a short walk around 10-15 minutes from the lovely beach. The beach also has AI bars and a restaurant though we never used the restaurant there. There is also a free shuttle to tye beach from reception. Reception area is very busy, with people making use of the free WiFi. Reception staff are good, but it's usually very busy there and separate desks could be arranged for check ins, outs and enquires. Rooms are dated, but ok. The cleaners are great. Entertainment is OK in the evenings. Pools are nice but very busy, especially the heated pool bar where the service isn't great imo. The other pool bar is much better service. Those guys are great and keep the drinks coming. The main restaurant....lovely food overall, though not much for vegetarians. However this place is chaotic. The hotel was very busy when we went and as a result, very few clean empty tables. It's a bit of a joke in there. As a knock on, the speciality restaurants get booked up very quick as people probably can't be bothered to race in the buffet to get a table. We only tried the Chinese "Royal Wok" and this lovely. There is a Lebanese restaurant too. I'd advise on booking these as soon as poss on the computer touch screen, adjacent to the hotel reception desk. Transfers were about 35 minutes. Good overall, but the restaurant isn't big enough imo

We’ve had a good holiday in Makadi Bay. The resort is very well kept, beautiful grounds/gardens and good choice of pools. We went during half term so the resort even though huge was fully booked and therefore quite busy which made it difficult to get a decent sun lounger if you didn’t get your towel down early enough. The “feeding at the zoo” reference in previous reviews is quite right especially during evening meal. Food is better than expected, plenty of choice some things can be a hit and miss but overall tasty with freshly cooked food stations. I was kind of expecting a lot of mince and slops but not at all. When we arrived we’ve had a small issue with the extra bed for our son but it was resolved in time but because we arrived late it was rather inconvenient to have to wait for bed. The rooms could really do with updating with old knackered furniture and dated decor. The beds are super comfy and AC works perfectly. Sun-loungers as mentioned above get reserved in the morning with towels dumped on most of them (even though it states clearly that reserving them isn’t allowed everyine does and staff assist them to do so). They are also dated and almost impossible to reposition. Staff works super hard and most of them go out of their way to make everyone comfortable and serve drinks in all areas ( tipping helps). I found staff at the heated pool bar more ignorant, many times waited awhile to be served while staff were serving guests that probably tip more. The a la carte restaurants get booked very quickly which is the reasons we were only able to try the Chinese which was good (maybe not authentic Chinese food but tasty nevertheless) . We ended up getting upset stomachs on thr last night but not sure what was too blame. Overall a pleasant stay but not perfect. Would we return? Probably not as huge busy resorts aren’t usually our vibe and you can probably get better for the money.
