La Colombe d'Or Hotel

What a great gem of an addition to the hotel industry in Houston! From service to the luxurious rooms (was in main building above reception in the Van Gogh Room), to the fab cocktails in the bar, loved everything. Love the story behind it & the art connections too

A great room with separate bedroom. Two quality TVs. Plenty of drinks supplied for pay of course. The bed was very comfortable and a great walk in shower. A free snack and drink room. Nice neighborhood felt very safe. Service was terrific. A good free coffee machine.

Such a lovely hotel! The historical mansion is carefully renovated and has wonderful staff members who are genuinely interested in your satisfaction and well being, we had a particularly pleasant stay thanks to Grace at the front desk and Domingo at the restaurant. We enjoyed very much their gastronomy with champagne and oysters at one of their verandas and also the croissants for breakfast have been very tasty. The rooms are fantastic in terms of design and the beds are truly confortable. Probably the most welcoming hotel amongst the luxury properties in Houston, in a calm, peaceful and central location. A big thanks to Christine for the overall organization of our stay.

We stayed in the bungalows. The space itself was ideal for the two of us because we have one who goes to bed early and one who does not. It was like having a 1BR apartment. I will say, though, that I was surprised when I had to cross the street to access our room from the main hotel. The street was never busy but it would definitely be a pain if traveling with small children. The bungalows are older apartments that have been thoughtfully and well renovated. Owing to their age, the temperature control was a bit lacking and we were in Houston on a cold weekend. It wasn't a problem per se, more of an inconvenience. But I add that mainly in case someone stays there in summer and the units have a challenge cooling down. The staff was attentive and gracious. The main house is spectacular. The art! My companion said she felt like we were in a small hotel in Europe. (Until we looked outside! Ha!) We did not dine onsite at any point but the bar and restaurant are both lovely. Hat tip to the valet services -- they have a challenge due to the shape of the property and location and it was always a pleasant interaction for us. It's not a 5 rating because of minor quibbles. The water pressure in the shower was very low, which is not something you expect in a luxury spot, especially not at this price point. There were issues with my keys. That sort of thing. But I would absolutely book another stay. The location is fabulous.

If I could give the service six stars, I would, by far my favorite hotel in Houston. We stayed in the bungalows this time which has lots of space and very comfortable vets. The restaurant at the hotel is fantastic and Bar No 3 is always fun with great cocktails. The first time we stayed in one of the mansion rooms which was also amazing, have not tried a tower room yet, but I have no doubt the quality and service will equal the mansion in bungalow rooms.

An absolutely beautiful hotel and lovely staff! As a self proclaimed lover of the boutique hotel experience, I feel La Colombe dOr hotel is the epitome of a boutique hotel. Our room was stunning in all ways, linens, decor, space layout and the bathroom! The restaurant and common areas are gorgeous and evoke another era. If you love art, design and beautiful architecture, look no further than La Colombe dOr hotel! Lastly, the staff was lovely, welcoming and helpful in every way! Cannot wait to return to La Colombe dOr hotel soon!

Gorgeous Historic Hotel in the heart of Montrose, amazing artwork throughout, wonderful bar and craft cocktails!

My wife and I stayed in the Tower during Christmas 2023. We stayed at the Bungalow during our previous stay at the La Colombe. Having experienced both, we recommend staying in the limited Tower rooms, if available. They have a more modern finish and are worthy of the 5-star classification of the hotel. However, if you would like more square footage, then we would recommend the Bungalow(s). The Bungalows have modern finishes too, but some of it is dated (not too much to make them unworthy of a stay). Overall you cannot go wrong staying here relative to other options in the Houston market (if you want to stay at a 5-star hotel). We have stayed at a few other hotels in downtown Houston and so far this one has beaten the rest (think JW Marriot, etc... in a heads-up comparison). The staff was attentive to our needs and had little touches along the way during our stay (we don't want to ruin any of their sneaky surprises but needless to say there were more than one during our stay). The only knock we can think of is limited parking but their valet staff handled our car with care, so that ended up being a non-issue (so long as you bake in the daily valet cost into your budget). One last thing, location. You're on Montrose, which is definitely one of the main attractions of this hotel. It's not overwhelming driving on Montrose relative to some other locations in Houston and there is killer food all around this area. Check out Handies Douzo for some killer handrolls. Also, the food/drink options on site are worthy of a visit as well. Thank you La Colombe team for our wonderful stay during the holidays and we look forward to staying with you in the future.

We stayed in a bungalow. The good: The staff, the restaurant, comfortable beds (if you like firm), “free” parking (see more below) and its pet friendly (kind of). The bad and the ugly: The "bungalows" are an old, semi-renovated, former apartment building with an open, central courtyard. The building is located a block away from the main hotel. The interior of our bungalow featured uncomfortable furniture, leaky faucets, and creaky wooden floors. There was little peace and little privacy. Suites are entered directly from the courtyard through clear, pane-glass front doors. Anyone can see straight into any bungalow from anywhere in the courtyard. Our suite was situated next to the housekeeping staging area and we experienced a near-constant flow of foot traffic and noise all day from housekeeping, landscaping, and other guests. We regularly heard from the guest dogs as well, who barked from their rooms as they stared out the clear glass doors at the staff and other guests milling about the courtyard. A simple pull-down shade over each door would go a long way to reduce noise and add a touch of privacy. In addition, we were also treated to bells and music that were projected to the entire neighborhood from the church across the street. This occurred from sunrise to sunset - because who wouldn’t enjoy that? Also, there are no trash cans outside the facilities and nowhere to deposit pet waste except in the neighborhood residents’ trash bins. Otherwise its left on the sidewalk to dodge as you make your way down the block to the restaurant/bar. Bungalow parking is limited to a few free spaces for 9-10 units. If you aren’t lucky enough to secure a spot, you’ll have to park in the street or pay $45/night for valet. Overall, this experience was disappointing and definitely NOT worth the expense.
