We had been looking forward to going up north to stay at the manor for some time and finally got a chance to celebrate my husband's birthday in December there. It was not really what I expected. When we arrived there was a very icy drive with no salt down. We arrived when we said we would but came into the manor and no one was around to greet us and there was no where to check in. A nice but smokey fire was going in the main room which was welcoming but other guests were already taking up the only available limited seating near it. On a weekend in Dec we were some of the only guests and felt no hospitality. When someone did finally come out from another room, we were told (not shown, although we had never been there and didn't know where anything was) the location of our room on another floor and told where to find a key. I had booked my husband a massage and asked where that was to take place to find out it was in another building, not easily accessible and another point rather than show. We went up to the room and the chocolate covered strawberries I had ordered were there waiting for us, which was nice. They were set on the plate and then coated so they were glued to the plate and very difficult to remove and the bottom halves were all broken off trying to pry them off the plate. Disappointing they don't know how to cover strawberries in chocolate so they aren't ruined trying to eat them and very messy. Not a worthwhile add on purchase. The room itself was not unpleasant, but had a very old, worn out feel to it- not old in the good way, which was what we were expecting. Peeling wallpaper, outdated bath with a broken drain, plexiglass over the windows in the bath, ratty tatty blinds and curtains - one of the curtains actually fell off the rod when I tried to close it because the curtain rod was either old, broken or both. There was no table space available for us to use with the wing chairs to set our drinks on or play a game, so I tried to use the table the little TV was on by moving it to the floor since we weren't going to be watching it and tried to move between the two chairs and one of the table legs fell off- clearly set just so as long as you didn't touch it it was ok. So the room had its flaws, but it was also a very awkward layout. The alley where the windows and view is is not an area you can sit in and the area in front of the fireplace isn't large enough to have the two chairs in so you can't really enjoy the view from sitting or the bed and you can't enjoy the fireplace by being able to sit near it, only lay in the bed- but because you have a live fire to start and tend, it's not ideal to do from the bed and it was just overall a very awkward layout. The view from the tub is nice, but if you fill the tub the steam clouds the plexiglass and you can't see and the drain is broken so it won't hold water long enough to enjoy anyway. While my husband was getting a massage I went down at tea time to enjoy the fire and a snack, which was
