I would not recommend to stay at YHA Hobart Central. I have stayed with the YHA for the past 13 years and all around the world, and never have I been treated so attrociously! In December 2022 I booked a private room with an ensuite, to then stay in March 2023. I had confirmed my booking, paid my booking, and on departure from Melbourne to Hobart my plane was delayed. I rang the hostel to let them know I was still coming but there will be a delay in my flight. I was told no worries, you will receive a text message with your room number and pin number, in which I didn't receive. I rang back just before the plane took off, and the receptionist gave me the room number and pin number. On arrival to the property it was late, I headed up to my room, put the pin number in and entered the room. As I walked in I was greeted by a male and his partner! We were all in shock! I had been able to enter their room. I rang the after hours reception number in which I was greeted by a very rude receptionist, who continued to say that the hostel was fully booked for that night! I said to her, ”well sorry you need to sort something out, I have booked and paid for this room back in December, I have just been able to walk into someone else's room with the number I was given and now you are telling me the hostel is fully booked!” She continued to smack both fist down on the bench, using profusive language and telling me to get out.” I am still in disbelief I walked in to a room that was given to me as mine, but I was greeted with another couple in it already! I WOULD NEVER EVER RECOMMEND TO STAY IN THIS HOSTEL!!!

I went to Tasmania for a few days from Sydney, because I especially chose to go to the market on Saturday to choose this hotel. Kevin is the best host EVER. So helpful and cooks a good breakfast just how you like it, with good coffee. When we arrived late he give us instructions to enter the property, my first impression wasn’t that great to be honest , with over grown bushes and dated hallways but on entering our room was big and spacious and clean. Had 3 great nights sleep bed is so comfortable and dreamy pillows. Bathroom a little dated but spacious and clean. Also a kitchen and dining area you can use which is great. Only a short walk into town so great location. Overall great stay for the price.
