Astor Private Hotel

The Astor Hotel exceeded our expectations in more ways than one. We booked 3 nights and ended up extending our stay. It doesn’t feel ‘commercially run’ - it’s such a personal touch and the owners are really kind, generous and warm-hearted people who are in the business for the love of it all. It’s rare to find that nowadays. We slept really well every night and enjoyed the breakfast which at $5/person was really good value. Thank you, Tildy and Neil! Our bicycles enjoyed their stay too having an entire room to themselves. We have found our favorite hotel in Hobart and will certainly be back!

I love staying at the Astor and it is one of my favourite parts of visiting Hobart. It’s like visiting fun relatives - you’re welcomed in, feel comfortable straight away, and can spend time talking and laughing. In addition, it is always spotlessly clean, comfortable and has windows that open for fresh air! Tildy has the knack for answering your question before you ask it……. Need to store your luggage while you go hiking? Need to know where to put your muddy stuff when you return? Need a summary of this year’s comments from hikers returning from a particular trail? And she’ll give you this info with an anecdote or two that will make you laugh…… I wonder if she tells all of us hikers that other groups are smellier on return - haha. If you’re after a hermetically sealed airconditioned room, with a telly and a remote, this is NOT your place. If you’re after somewhere where you’re able to chat and relax and have a wonderful, clean and comfortable base in central Hobart, the go and visit Tildy and Neil

We enjoyed our stay for four nights here.The proprietors Tildy and Neil were very friendly.They let us leave our luggage there too, pre flights home. The rooms were comfortable We used a shared bathroom but they also have ensuite rooms Nice lounges and art deco feel to the place Reasonable rates for CBD Hobart Clean rooms with ambience ++ 🙂

· Tildy and the astor hotel team was an incredibly hospitable and welcoming we just finished sailling the Sydney to hobart race and when i came back the next day all my washing was done but it got better when i left from the airport i left my computer in the check in security so i contacted Tildy she picked up from airport and shipped to spain for me thank you wonderful people to run Hotels

Astor Hotel with hosts Tildy & Neil is the ultimate home away from home. Hobarts very own Fawlty Towers experience is not to be missed. Our family and friends have visited countless times over the years and always enjoy the Famous Astor hospitality. The Centrally located Astor Hotel is a treasure worth pursuing.

What an amazing experience. Came across a reference to this hotel whilst browsing for accommodation in Hobart. It sounded interesting and has a number of good reviews. I can only call this a hidden jewel. Owners /Managers are efficient helpful and obliging. Rooms are spacious and generously proportioned. THE BEDS ARE REALL COMFORTABLE. The decor is modern and , thank God, not plastic , as is the case in just about every modern hotel in which I have stayed. The proprietors go out of their way to be helpful . Everything works as it should, with a charming ambience which comes from a more sophisticated era of travel. Breakfast is provided , parking is available and secure. The hotel is within easy walking distance of all of Hobart’s principal attractions. I cannot speak highly enough of my stay at the Astor. From now on my “ Home away from home in Hobart”

The Astor is a quaint hotel in the heart of Hobart whichh offers great hospitality by Tildy and Neil. Our experience was the same as it was in our previous stay. The hotel is clean, full of character and in walking distance to the waterfront/ Salamanca area. It is a nice Hotel in the heart of Hobart which we strongly recommend.

This was my second time staying at the Astor and I loved staying in Room No 4 with its extremely comfortable bed and luxurious and artistic setting. Again, it was like stepping back into a different era and even though Hobart is a relatively quiet city, I breathed a big sigh of relief each time I entered the Hotel. It is beautifully furnished with Art Deco glass, interesting books, sculptures and paintings and opulent vases of flowers. This time the Chris**as decorations were up and it made it even more welcoming. Tildi was very friendly, accomodating and informative and I enjoyed learning aspects of the history of the Hotel. The continental breakfast was delicious, incredibly reasonable and left in a great room full of character. I would very highly recommend for anyone to stay here. A great place if you're travelling as a woman by yourself too. My room was upgraded to a double and it was very helpful to be able to check in a little early and to collect my bags later as I had an evening flight.

We loved our stay; excellent central location so we could walk everywhere; character filled, charming interiors; on separate occasions we stayed in rooms 32 and 34, both were very spacious with great ensuites. The optional continental breakfast was generous for the price. Tildy and Neill are just delightful. Would definitely book again.
