I wish I had read the other review before I booked this hotel. We had a very similar experience but worse, if that were at all possible! I booked the Wendover Arms in June for July, but did not receive any confirmation. As it was getting close to the date of my stay, I thought I'd better check. When I rang the hotel, they said they could see I had booked so I asked if they could send a confirmation email. They agreed. Nothing came. I rang again the following day and eventually I received a confirmation email. After a 5 hour drive, my husband pulled up in the car park and noticed that there was a penalty notice for any car that stayed there for longer than 10 mins without registering. As I got to the front desk, I gave my name and was met with, 'Sorry m'aam, we have no record of your booking.' I then produced the email they had sent, confirming my booking, with the reply, 'Sorry m'aam, all our rooms are full.' Obviously, I was not very happy after such a long drive. The man on reception then rang a sister hotel and got me a room there (at a £20 discount - only after my insistence). I then pointed out that we were worried about receiving a parking fine and was told, 'Don't worry m'aam, you are not staying over 10 mins so you will be fine.' Take a guess what happened next... Not only was I booked in to a truly horrible hotel down the road, but a few weeks after our stay, we were sent a parking charge from NPC, saying we'd been in the car park for 11 mins. I immediately rang the Wendover Arms and they pleaded complete ignorance over the whole matter! NPC were not interested either and turned down our appeal as there was no 'evidence' except my word. Please AVOID this hotel like the plague, or if you are forced to stay then park on the road.
