We were looking for an inexpensive week in the Cretian sun, and found in here in Hersonissos at Porto Village. Not a hotel in the traditional sense, more a complex of small bedrooms with toilets and showers. A word or 2 about Hersonissos first though. When town planning, seems pavements are advisory/optional, so watch out for sudden lurches into the (busy) main road. Seek out decent coffee, it does exist but is often "confused" by the locals with Nescafe. Take the obligatory, "We have the BEST coffee" with a grain of salt! Deseo Coffee Bar = sublime coffee, and they understand what is a "flat white" unlike most. Buses, there are lots of them, they seem to run all the time, and feel like family owned enterprises, with papa driving & mama seeing passengers on & off, and collecting the very minimal fares. Truly excellent & easy. Taxi fares are supposed to be regulated . . .??!! And how many car/quad/scooter rental companies can you fit into 1 town? 100 plus or so it seemed like! Anyway, Porto Village. Most of the rooms were refurbished, clean & all operational (hot water, amazing shower, kettle, USB ports, air con). Our tv failed several attempts to get it past the Greek Menu, but no worries, Netflix, Amazon Prime worked on our iPad flawlessly, really strong wi-fi. Food, well a mixed bag. Lots of items in sauces, nothing grilled or fried. If you missed a dish at dinner it likely appeared again next day as lunch. Salads repeated every day, no hams except at breakfast. You're not going to go hungry, but for me a night out at a local restaurant was really necessary by the end of the week. The poolside area was very busy, claim your sunbed early or miss out, just not enough space to accommodate any more. The bar was OK, very limited selection of drinks as part of the all inclusive deaL. Snacks by the pool? If you like popcorn, you are in for a treat. Otherwise, the odd sandwich & slice of cake were sometimes available, What did I LOVE - staff so friendly & helpful. Short walk to town, downhill, but a bit uphill on the way back. What did I HATE - smoking! At least 25% of the guest were smoking at some time, all around the bar, pool & restaurant areas. Hard to get away from it. Mostly Dutch guests we found, with a smattering of Brits. All in all we had a wonderful, inexpensive I say again, 8 days, thanks to Travelzoo/Travelodeal. Definitely on our list of potential returns, but set your expectations according to what you are paying.

I’m going to breakdown my review as there was such a drastic difference in the hotel compared to the ‘all inclusive food/drink’ offering. The location was lovely, just far enough out of town up a slight hill to get stunning views, peace, quiet and no hassle of traffic. Near enough for a short walk to the shops and busier ***** with bars and restaurants. The hotel grounds were well kept, clean and pretty, lots of lovely fruit trees and a good blend of green areas and patio area poolside. Good mix of sunbeds, beanbag beds, tables and chairs and the choice of sun or shade in the common use areas. The room was beautiful, we were given a free upgrade to assist with my mobility issues which was greatly appreciated. There were a few steps up to each room but manageable for a stick user. Apart from being slightly dark inside, the rooms more than made up for it with modern fittings and decor, a fantastic shower that I wanted to bring home. Really big and powerful overhead waterfall and separate hose for hair washing. Plenty of plugs, nice flat screen tv if needed. We played our Alexa off the WiFi which was really strong and serviced us well all week. Bedding was clean and lots of towels available daily. Almost all of the staff were really helpful and friendly, the restaurant staff were professional but less helpful, maybe because this was where most of the challenges came in customer satisfaction. The food I’m sad to say was just awful. Very little variety or quality of food. I’m talking basic food not an expectation of anything more for a 3 star. The breakfast wasn’t worth getting up for. One two slice toaster shared across all guests. Two panini presses which didn’t toast. No lattes available. Filter coffee was available until 10,30pm if they had milk at the bar. Lots of items such as tomatoes and pancakes would run out well over an hour before breakfast close and would not be replenished. Bacon one day and sausage the next, both never on the same day. If there were fried egg there wouldn’t be scrambled or poached. An example of how bad the food was being an egg frittata on the evening menu was chopped up and repurposed to seasoned eggs with cheese melted on top the next morning. Beef burgers were the only and main meat offering on one night. Snacks available were whatever was left over pastry wise or cold meat wise from breakfast. When I say meat there was only continental sausage slices, no real ham or meat as would be expected. Ice cream was only available in the restaurant during lunch and dinner services, how is this all inclusive? Also my first experience of having to clear my own plate at a bin and cutlery station. It felt like a school not an all inclusive holiday experience. The bar was available 10.30am - 10.30pm, four cocktail choices which were out of a carton. Beer and house wine was fine and plentiful. No local vodka or gin options. Only branded options available at extra costs. Overall the food and drink during this holiday

Whilst this is obviously a budget place to stay, the ‘all inclusive’ title is utterly incorrect. The bar is only ‘all inclusive’ until 10.30pm and whilst it is available there are 4 god awful ‘cocktails’, cheap ouzo and brandy or lager in small glasses available. The food in the restaurant is Luke warm and lacking any flavour. The choices are minimal - very little Greek cuisine. Whilst nobody told us to clear our table, there seems to be an expectation that you take dirty plates to the clearing station. Meal times are set, with ‘bar snacks’ (left over breakfast pastries, bland half sandwiches and popcorn) available in between. Staff are friendly and helpful, rooms are clean, communal areas are sufficient for occupancy at this time of year. For the price, I suppose we should have anticipated these factors. But - dammit - I want a large gin and tonic under the all inclusive!!

The room was fabulous and located opposite the bar, the resort itself is pretty and feels very peaceful. The food is very poor quality and limited to six hot plates with a small variety of food. Even the salad bar was uninviting. There’s an expectation that you clear your own pots away, something I have never experienced in an all inclusive restaurant. There was no effort made to make The food look appetising. This really let the place down big time, I can’t stress enough how bad the food was, even the bar snacks were bland and tasteless. The staff are all lovely. Whilst I appreciate this was a bargain holiday. Scrimping on the food and alcohol will always bring about bad reviews. It would be really lovely. It would be really lovely if these reviews were taken seriously, only then would I consider returning

I phoned to check on an issue with guests at hotel and asked to speak to a manager and asked the name of the person I was speaking to. I was told this couldn’t be divulged! The lady kept asking my name however and which agency I was calling from and persisted in calling me lady!!! Very rude!!! She continued to be rude throughout the call and I said it was re a complaint and she told me to email. I said the matter was urgent and she said call tomorrow! The phone then cut off! I called back and she said she hadn’t ended the call however still continued to say her side of story which of course she believed to be true but she wasn’t there at check in so couldn’t be sure and def assumed a situation that again wasn’t true and didn’t even give me a chance to try and resolve any situation that had arisen or get help for the guests there who had been treated poorly! The rude tone and unhelpful nature of the manager during the call and knowing the story would make me give this hotel a wide berth and poor rating and I wasn’t even there!!!

Disaster End to Holiday Booked a one week all inclusive stay at Porto Village Hotel in Crete through Love Holidays. Arriving late in the evening due to delay with transfer we were greeted by a kind gentlemen who welcomed us to the hotel. Upon reading reviews of hotel and rooms I enquired about an upgrade on room and how much this would cost directly to hotel through their website. Price and availability were confirmed by staff over emails and was explained would be payable at checkin if we wished to proceed with upgrade on arrival. When we arrived the gentlemen stated he was aware of the request to upgrade our stay on special request for my friends birthday, and happily confirmed this had been completed. When asking to pay for this service he said no problem that it was covered. We enjoyed most aspects of our stay, paying addition to keep the room on day of checkout and the bar/pool area was lovely however quite loud and rowdy with guest at times. However the all inclusive was not what I have experienced in the past and this hotel should not be advertised to catering for all inclusive as this is not at all the service you will receive on your stay. The food remained the same most days with the odd change of meat option consisting of fish, dry boiled pasta, some tinned warm veg and a salad bar. Soft drink were only available until 22:30 after which for a Fanta (more like watered down orangeade)was €3 a time. Snacks through the day were either a bag of stale unflavoured popcorn which 90% of the time had ran out or some left over pastry’s for the breakfast selection. Not being fussy eaters we attempted to eat here for all 3 meals for the first couple of days before having to venture out for food for the rest of our stay. We bought our own soft drinks and water for the room due to the poor quality drinks on offer for all inclusive guest and was able to keep this in the fridge provided in our room however due to size only a few cans/ bottles would fit. On our last full day at the hotel we were left a letter in our room to pay extra chargers for our room before 9pm that evening including a city tax which we enquired about on arrival. On enquiring about these extra charges with two different staff members of which were rather rude and found the situation funny explained we had not paid City tax or for the requested upgrade asked before arrival. Explaining to staff that we had came prepared to pay both on arrival but were told that it was covered, we were now confused about the request and due to the extra cost of eating out and supplying our own drinks which was not something we considered when booking, along with the rude nature of the staff upon enquiry and the nature in which the manager Maria dealt with the situation we informed staff we were ‘not in a position to pay’ resulting in staff laughing at us and accusing us of being young girls who had spent all their money and were looking for excuses not to pay. Me and my friend booked to stay at the Porto Village hotel in Crete for a week all inclusive. Before we left to come to Crete, my friend seen they had some newly done up rooms and thought since we were coming to celebrate my birthday, it’d be a nice wee addition to our stay. She was told it was €70 in total and that we just required to pay on check in, she then responded that when we arrive, we will pay this on check in. We arrived at the hotel at around 11.30pm and found it difficult to find the reception area. We then were greeted by a lovely man at reception who was lovely to speak to and helped us check in. My friend then said about our room upgrade that we enquired about for my birthday, he then responded that we didn’t require to pay for this and I made sure with him if there was any charges (city tax etc) if we could pay it now as I don’t want to be paying anything on check out, which he stated there would be nothing additional apart from any damage or smoking done in the room which is normal. The room smelt of sewage and drains which is typical when you come to Greece as their drainage systems aren’t the best but the room was nice. There was only 2 plug sockets (1 in the bedroom and 1 in the living room) and placed in the most inconvenient of places, the upgrade clearly needed another upgrade. Our first day we went for breakfast and I have never experienced anything like it- ham, cheese and peaches in 1 section and then 6 hot plates. The selection was poor and it was the same- fish, pasta, rice and tinned veg. Felt like I was in a care home away to pop my clogs. And the fact they served fizzy juice at breakfast…. ***. The fact you had to clear the table yourself and put the food in the bin made me think that they were getting some free labour so they didn’t have to pay for waiting staff as there was 1 person the majority of the time. The fizzy juice wasn’t even fizzy and tasted worse than supermarket own branded fizzy juice. The all inclusive alcohol offered Ouzo, Raki and Brandy which are the cheapest drinks you can get it in Greece, you got the worst tasting fizzy drinks again and no fresh juice was offered. My friend was told it was €3 for a Fanta (watered down orangeade). The snacks offered at the bar were cardboard popcorn and sandwiches with 1 slice of meat, 1 slice of cheese and 1 lettuce leave with no butter or mayo on it. I threw it to the animals in the fields next to the hotel but wouldn’t think they’d touch it despite how hungry they all look. About 70% of the sunloungers are broken that you think you’re going to hit the floor when you sit on them. Definitely not checked. We spent the majority of our time out the hotel for food and drinks and brought soft drinks and snacks back. We brought a couple of bottles alcohol drinks back with us and asked the guy at the bar to open them for us and he told us we couldn’t drink them at the bar, that was fine and we went back to the terrace but then opened them when my frie

Stayed at Porto village with my family. It was very nice. We lived in one of the houses that wasn’t renovated, but it was still ok. Clean and not worn out. All staff was nice and polite. I’m glad we didn’t stay there in the main period, I can see it could be a party hotel. But for us it was fine. Definitely a hotel I will recommend and stay at again.

My rating of this hotel is purely because of how lovely the hotel was in its self this hotel is not and should not be advertised as all inclusive , we was very disappointed with the options available .really poor selection of food which often was put out the next day when it didn't get eaten the night before it often was some form of potato burnt pizza and evens meat option was a chewy pork ,we ate out most nights as I didn't want to spend my holiday eating poor buffet food (I do understand all inclusive isn't typically the best but this wasn't even close to been decent ) breakfast consisted of ham cheese and egg not much else and not to mention drink choices no vodka included in the price ,you had to pay extra 8€ for a vodka and mixer ,the only drinks included was local cheep spirit like ouzo and poor cocktails local beer and also the soft drinks you had three choices which was just cheep fizzy orange lemon and cola unless you paid extra for bottled which were expensive compared to shop prices , the hotel offered no entertainment only quiet music in the pool bar ,the staff at the pool bar weren't friendly and often made it difficult for you to ask them for anything as there attitude was not it ,which surprised me after reading comments that there was a very friendly bar man ? this hotel would be amazing if it offered a room only basis as the facility's were lovely , reception staff were really friendly and always made conversation . Our room we stayed in was lovely the aircon worked amazing and it was always very clean ! it's in a great location just a small walk to the front , we would only stay here again if it was to offer a room only basis as we wouldn't waste the money paying for all inclusive
