Lovely Pub, Lovely Room, Great shower cant ask for much more.

What a gem of a place in the heart of an old market town in Hertfordshire..... A lovely pub that offers fantastic food, drink and a**osphere. Becka and her team couldn't do enough for you, warm, friendly and attentive; a must if you're in the area, not one to miss!!!

Staff were nice, room was ok, but i was at the front of the building with a very busy road, noisy all night with single pane glass windows. Also don't plan on eating on a Monday, they don't do food then.

The room was beautiful with a comfortable bed and huge bath. Staff kindly let me check in early as I was going to a local function. The pub itself looked very nice as well. My room looked out over the garden and it was a summer evening so the staff told me it might be a little noisy until closing time. But I didn't find it noisy and was then very quiet during the night. A very nice place to stay but quite expensive.

Needed a shower after a long day of hiking only to find out the room had no hot water. There was no telephone in the room so went back down to report the issue. The manager came up to check and confirmed no hot water in all the rooms but all should be ok in 20 minutes. That never happened. Ended up having a cold shower. Resulted to boiling water 5 kettle of water the next morning as a makeshift. Not pleased with the manager’s attitude either. Will definitely not use again. If you must use the hotel ask for room at the back. Street side noisy with traffic and people leaving the pub.

absolutely awful service, we sat down for some drinks on a friday evening and after about an hour, a worker approached us asking us to finish our drinks and leave for no reason apart from that we were “making her feel uncomfortable” the manager was bought over and he told us the same thing, he was very rude about it

The bedrooms were well decorated and comfortable. The staff were all very friendly and efficient, and the manager/owner was very accommodating to our groups requests. Only downside is no car park, but you can park for free a couple of mins walk away and wasn't really an issue for us

Massive disappoin**ent as service, food and value all way below par. We had to find our own space outside in the marquee by combining three tables and chairs to provide seating for our party of 8. Where were the staff? Studied the limited menu carefully before we all placed our orders for starters and mains with beef brisket pie and steaks proving popular. The manager took our orders to the kitchen only to return with the news that they had no beef left!! This was 7,30pm on a Wednesday evening - how badly managed was the kitchen to achieve such an unwelcome stock out. We studied the menu again but with far less enthusiasm. I ordered the beer battered cod and chips with mushy peas - these came with the onion rings i had ordered to accompany my steak. How stupid not to check that i still wanted them after the cancelled steak episode! The cod was dry and unappetising as was the plasterboard batter. I left most including the chips. As a Yorkshireman, i have sugar on my mushy peas but the kitchen said they had no loose sugar only white knobs - useless. Most others had diverted to the luxury fish pie. Oh no it wasn't, it was just lumpy mashed potato with the odd bit of white fish and salmon. After a few ices etc for pudding, we all asked for coffees and teas. No this was not possible as they had no hot water. This had become the modern day equivalent to "Fawlty Towers" but minus any of the amusement. I have not had such a bad evening supper for some time.
