Excellent in all respects.Welcoming hosts,comfortable beds,lovely extras and superb banquet of a breakfast. Fully deserving of their 5 star rating. The carrot cake was a particularl treat and only sorry that could not stay longer to enjoy all that was on offer

A wonderful B&B. Extremely comfortable rooms and beds, and even better, it had a drying room for wet walkers like us! Breakfast was really lovely, great choice of cereals and cooked food. Ian was a very helpful host, giving us lifts for a meal out as nowhere is Haltwhistle was serving food. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Stay here for one night during our coast to coast bike tour. Greated by Ian and Kate who could not do enough for two wet and tired cyclist. Ian gave us a beer each and Kate offered to clean and dry our wet cycling gear. The room was fantastic, spotlessly clean and even had some homemade cake waiting for us. BB in great location near to the local pub and shops. The icing on the cake was the best breakfast I've ever had in any hotel or BB. Home cooked high quality food served with a smile. Absolutely 10 out 10

We stayed one night with Ian & Kate in their wonderful B&B we only wished it was longer, their hospitality is first class along with the amenities offered. The breakfast was soooo yummy. Thank you again Ian & Kate. The B&B is close to the Roman attractions and Hadrians Wall

Delightful home away from home, bed and pillows were so comfy. Hosts Kate and Ian did everything possible to ensure I had everything I needed, even a drive to a local must see “Vindolanda” old Roman fort. Delicious breakfast - the homemade muesli especially!

Stayed with Kate and Ian for five nights and couldn't have had kinder or more thoughtful hosts. I thoroughly recommend The Old School House for hikers, as they have all the facilities to dry walkers out after a day on Hadrian's Wall (and I believe the Penine Way) in the rain. The breakfasts are an absolute marvel, and the Border Breakfast is enough to keep you going all day. When you get back in the evening there's always a treat waiting next to the kettle in your room. If I'm ever plan to go back to the area I'd make sure they had space for me before I booked a trip. The lifts were an absolute Godsend on the rainy days and when the last bus was cancelled.

This property is in an amazing and prime location for Hadrian’s all exploration. Close to the best preserved parts of the wall with great amenities nearby. Hosts Ian and Kate are exceptionally helpful and accommodating. Room was magnificent and breakfasts incredible! Just get here !

An excellent place to stay with friendly and helpful owners Ian and Kate. The building is quirky and tastefully decorated. There is great attention to detail in the adornment making it interesting to look at. The bathroom was large and nicely tiled. The breakfast was to die for, it’s highlights being the home made muesli, individual cafetières, china crockery and very tasty avocado and poached eggs!

My son and I stayed here while walking part of Hadrian's wall in very wet and cold conditions, so really appreciated Ian and Kate's warm welcome and space for drying our wet, muddy clothes and boots. Because of its location and proximity to the A122 bus stop it's the perfect base for 3 nights on the Hadrian's wall hike but it's very worthwhile staying here anyway for that warm welcome, the delicious breakfast and super-comfortable beds. The rooms ticked my box because in addition to all the normal things, they include a small fridge, herbal teas and conditioner as well as shampoo. A visit to the nearby Roman excavation site and museum at Vindolanda was fascinating and the wild Northumbrian scenery all around is spectacular. Ian and Kate are delightful hosts - friendly and considerate. We'll come again.
