The Dorrington

I booked a party in the Trinity Suite function room for my special birthday. The room is a lovely size. The staff were amazing. They went out of their way to accommodate and to make my special birthday a huge success. The DJ was great too. The price was very reasonable. One small criticism they could do with somewhere to hang coats but highly recommend this venue. Well done to the staff 👏

Stayed here for one night with family, and have to say it was a comfy night, the hotel is in the town and close to everything. Tom was very polite and welcoming and even showed us to our room, which is something that I've never experienced before. It is very reasonably priced The rooms were ok, they were clean and comfy beds but the room could do with a bit of a refresh. Other than that I had no issues at all. I would stay again 😊

The room was so awful, dusty, dirty floors just couldn't stay there, seriously needed updating, no one seems to care about it unfortunately. Will stick to well known hotel chains in future, with staff that are welcoming.

We booked to stay at the Dorrington (two adults two children) as we were attending a wedding in nearby castle heddingham we didn’t need anything to fancy and just booked a family room for a bargain of £75. However upon arrival the friendly manager text me to let me know we had been upgraded to the cottage (just two mins down the road) so unsure if it always comes under the Dorrington and can’t speak for the other rooms. But it was a lovely, clean, fully equipped new inside, gorgeous cottage. With two bedrooms, a kitchen and lounge. I could have easily stayed here all week! Would definitely visit there again. And definitely recommend if your staying for a wedding nearby. Thanks again for the upgrade and lovely stay.

On arriving at The Dorrington in Halstead , we booked into room , found out where to park car, and was then shown to our room, was told it’s one of the better rooms, by bar person. £60 for two for one night. On first look it look ok , but when I took a closer look at the bed covers there were signs that it had dent been changed from previous persons stay. So my husband went looking for bar person and said the bed sheets had not been changed, he did offer to come and change them , but my husband said we would do it so he was given clean sheets and with that offered us a free drink ( which we had ) The rubbish was still in the bin, coffee cups in different rooms, ie bathroom and one in main room/bedroom, and no clean towels either,,,, not a good start to our stay. Other than that you expect a bit of noice when the bar closes at 2 am ….

My daughter/sil and grandson just stayed here and it was “ok” but one or 2 issues which could have been better. Friendly staff in the bar for check in but be aware “The Cottage” is not behind the bar premises where the rooms are but, behind the old police station in Halstead which is now converted into private homes. On approach to the cottage (which looks lovely and true to photos) we were warned by a female - I assume lives in the private properties, that the garden was “private property” and we were not allowed on it in quite an unfriendly manner! So not a great start to their 3 day stay. At first glance, the inside is lovely with modern furniture and quite spacious, Modern kitchen with an extra little toilet/washroom off the kitchen area which was very handy. Upstairs is the main bedroom with double bed/rail to hang your clothes up and a generous size set of drawers and 2 white fluffy towels on the bed. Really nice modern bathroom next to it with shower/modern loo & basin and heated wall mounted towel rail. And, finally a twin room with white metal framed beds with clean linen/towels. Both bedrooms have skylights for windows. Overall a lovely little place to stay for a few days BUT!!! There is No WiFi in the property (big problem for a 10 year old), lovely French doors in living room which are locked - you’re not allowed in the garden as it belongs to the private homes, so that was a shame (especially as my family had brought their well behaved dog with them). Lack of crockery/cutlery to use - lots of utensils but no can opener, only 1 mug and 3 mismatched glasses. And, finally, it rained quite heavily one day and the walls in the main bedroom got quite damp around the edges so I think a bit of maintenance is needed. A bonus is that you do get your own parking space out front 😊 I think it would benefit from having a fence of some kind to divide the cottage from the private homes and definitely install Wi-Fi but other than that it was a good stay.
