We stayed in two different rooms at Stella Maris before and after our Kilimanjaro trek with G Adventures. Our second room was a King room and more spacious and nicer than our first (which had a double and a twin) but both were nice rooms and bathrooms. Pros: Incredibly friendly and helpful staff, on-site restaurant with delicious food, they make it easy to arrange transfers and tours to town or the airport or really anywhere you need to go, nice outdoor space to relax in, views of Kilimanjaro (when/if the clouds clear!), and knowing that your money is benefiting the children at the Stella Maris school is wonderful too. Cons: Limited hot water! Because we had climbed Kili this was a big bummer, since my fiance had to take a half cold shower when we came down. You share a water heater with another room for most rooms, so just be wary of taking longer showers. They do also price beer and water pretty high, so for the convenience just know you are paying a lot. Besides that, a great place to stay and the staff make the 5 stars!

We had a fantastic stay. Teddy, Esther, Innocent, Revo, Richard, and the rest of the staff were so kind and welcoming and professional. Our rooms were spotless, and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast and dinners were tasty, and the ice cream was some of the best I’ve ever had at a hotel. Beautiful, welcoming place. Would highly recommend!

What makes this place so special is the staff. They immediately make you feel like part of the family and are the warmest most welcoming people I have ever experienced in any hotel. The hotel is very clean, and perfect for your stay before hiking Kilimanjaro. As a bonus, all the profits fund a school on the property that you can visit and see the children. You will be sad to leave your Tanzanian family as they take such good care of you!

Like coming home. We have been unable to visit Teddy Chuwa, my dada, and her staff for two years. When we arrived this week it was like family greeting us. Accommodations are clean, warm showers, great beds, incredible food and friendly staff! Big thank you to Schola, Ester, Innocent, Revel, Richard, Lilly and Arthuman. If you are looking for a place to stay as a group or solo near Kilimanjaro, this is the place.

Clean hotel with a nice food and beautiful view on the Mt Kilimanjaro. What makes it even better is that this is a non-profit hotel funding a nearby school for the kids with a difficult background. Beautiful initiative, I definitely recommend supporting them!

Staff are wonderfully attentive and cater to whatever we needed before and after our trek. Schola, Liliana, Liliana, Rudy?, everyone was wonderful. Hot food was available pretty much all day long. There was also local art and things to buy inside the hotel in support of the school, offered without any unneeded solicitation. The electricity in this part of Tanzania can be temperamental, and the staff I feel do their best to balance guest needs with the obvious cost of running the supplemental generator. Overall I was very pleased with Stella Maris Lodge and it's support of the school nextdoor.

Wow! We stayed here as part of the package that our outfitter provided before and after our Kilimanjaro Trek. Cannot say enough good things about the Stella Maris. Teddy and her staff are simply amazing. From pickup at the airport to the final hug as we leave, they are there to welcome you to Tanzanian hospitality and make sure you are good for your trip. The staff is more than eager to help you with any needs, the food is amazing and the rooms exceeded our expectations. Plus, as others mentioned, your stay and the money you spend at the lodge all go to support disadvantaged Tanzanian children at the adjacent school. We were there when the school was out for the holiday break, so we missed meeting the children. Great place to stay and highly recommended!

From the moment we arrived, in preparation for our Kilimanjaro Trek, we were welcomed like family. Teddy and her team were always smiling and ready to help. The accommodations were comfortable, and we appreciated being able to store our luggage that we didn't need on the mountain during our trek. The food was delicious, there was a great selection at the included breakfast, and the rest of the menu items were just as tasty. So much is given back to support the school on the property, these hosts are truly changing lives in their community.

As part of a trek to Kilimanjaro, our outfitter made accommodations for us at the Stella Maris Lodge. It was my first real taste of Tanzania upon arrival and was made to feel welcome and at home from the moment I arrived. The staff was warm, kind, full of smiles, and excited for our future trek. The rooms are very comfortable and relaxing. The hallways display works of local artists. And the upstairs lounge boasts large windows with a superb view of Kilimanjaro. But after the trek was when I truly was blown away. We came back quite muddy and the staff was quick to get our boots, trekking poles, and other gear cleaned up for us. It was such an above and beyond move by the Stella Maris staff. So glad we were able to rest, recuperate, and stay at the Stella Maris lodge!
