This was our first experience with Riu and overall it was good. The property was vast but very clean. We booked a superior room which had a partial ocean view. The walk from the room to the beach was 5 minutes in total. Because the property is so large, getting to a bathroom was always a trek. Poolside there is service but not at the beach. I highly suggest packing an insulated cup because drinks get hot/melt fast. Compared to other all inclusive resorts I’ve visited, the downside here is: no room service, wristbands, outdated rooms/linen, AC did not work well in room, and towels require a card or charge for loss/theft.
Pros: shopping on site and at the beach. The monkey bar is a 15 minute walk. Activities and night shows were great. BBQ poolside almost daily. Friendly and helpful staff. Easy checkin and checkout.

It was a pretty nice place. It huge, so a lot of walking to get to beach. Beach is nice. You can get up close to the monkeys if you travel down the beach a ways. Only complaints are they didn’t fill the room bar or refrigerator, toilet would only flush sporadically, very firm bed and noise fro area construction .

Stayed with two children. Beautiful property and resort grounds. Great pool although gets a little gross towards afternoon, especially upper pools (because it’s near big swim up bar). Staff work really hard to provide a 5 star service. The food was better than expected. Rooms were average. While dated and tired, They are kept clean - housekeeping does a good job. Overall resort exceeded expectations.

We liked he hotel , except the bathroom sewer smell( with every toilet flush)that it got better only on our last day.

Beautiful resort. Check in, staff was great. Buffet was great, it was hard to get reservations into the restaurants. The bars indoor and poolside were great. The nightly shows were great. The rooms do need to be updated, very old. Overall
4.5 out of 5!

Happy with our family vacation at the RIU. We traveled as two groups- my in laws and me, my husband and our 10 month old. Overall it was a great place for a Costa Rica trip.
The staff was SO friendly and happy to be there. I was very pleased with the amount of available seating around the pool and at the beach. You could always find shade if you needed it! We also loved the eco adventure park that was right next door, great for those who wanted to zip line and those who just wanted to walk around to see the animals.
The facility is fairly old and has some wear and tear, but nothing concerning, just cosmetic. There is only one bar and one restaurant option near the pool/beach, so it’s a bit of a walk for drinks and lunch. Normally that’s no big deal, but with a baby I was very glad I brought a stroller (and one that reclined so baby could nap anywhere!). Most food options are buffets with a couple restaurants serving seated dinners, but was overall good and we never had to look hard for something to eat.
Overall, I think this resort was a decent value for the price. If you are looking for an affordable option with some nearby add-on excursions, this is a great spot.
