The resort markets itself as being exclusive and luxurious, currently it is neither of these things. The staff on the jetty in Cairns were welcoming and friendly -wishing us a great stay. Their colleague who welcomed us on the island was doing a job she’d obviously done many times and wasn’t too happy about doing it again! That set the tone for all the staff on the island, they did their jobs but with very little interest or enthusiasm. Staff in the restaurant were largely young Europeans who I think were just going to make enough money to get out of there. Their supervisor told us she couldn’t keep staff for long! Reception was unmanned a lot during their opening hours. I stupidly did not scan down to page 3 of my booking terms so did not appreciate that our budget breaking price did NOT include any food. There is no option other than the restaurant, no outside food allowed on the island. Meals are very expensive for what they are. There is nothing to do in the evening (last dinner 7pm) other than return to your rather drab room. Torches are available to explore, the night we were there it rained! Snorkel trip is a joke, 5 minute trip to a worn out reef, easily swim able for a good swimmer, no advice on how to preserve what’s left of the reef. Guy on the boat gave minimal instruction, no requirement to wear ocean safe sun lotion a few pointers on where to swim. NB this short boat trip was also for the divers! We had booked to leave on the afternoon boat but we’re so disheartened by the place we left on the morning boat
