We went to The Pig for Christmas Eve lunch as we live locally. We have been going to this venue for over 30+ years and the last time we went, June 24, we were worried that it had lost its sparkle! Sadly this visit would suggest it has, staff are good, location is superb but it just has not 'got it' anymore. What it can do is charge,£140 for lunch with no alcohol which is fine if the food is excellent, but it just isn't! Such a shame, as we said last time, Michelin prices but not food!.

Had a voucher for a three course meal for two as a gift. Went to the pig in December 24 as a birthday treat. Service great, but sat at a not very nice table in a dark corner. Really disappointed with the food as very average. Drinks relatively expensive. £200 for. Lunch for two. Sadly mediocre - wouldn’t return.

Had lunch in the restaurant. This isn't so much a country house hotel as a theme park. The dull drab atmosphere didn't appeal to us, perhaps the dull weather didn't help. Spacing of the tables was good but the restaurant was noisy and a bit on the cool side. The menu did not offer a huge choice and needed a bit of explaining regarding what was included in the starters regarding the price. The crockery was attractive but the cutlery was old fashioned, small and of poor quality. I had a nicely cooked pork chop but was puzzled why I was provided with a steak knife. Did they think it would be tough. There was nothing wrong with the meal but it wasn't inspiring. For the same money could have had a pub meal with more originality. The service was good although our bread was forgotten till I asked where it was.

The best service I think I have ever experienced. From arrival to departure, staff were attentive, polite, interested, knowledgeable and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble, we were there spending a voucher we’d been bought for our recent wedding, every member of staff we encountered congratulated us, which I thought was a lovely touch. We really were made to feel very special, and utterly delighted to receive an incredible room upgrade to ‘The Horsebox’ room, quite possibly, the most unique room I have ever stayed in. The food was amazing, and the place itself is spectacular. My one regret, is that we were only there for the one night on a flying visit between other stops, but I can’t wait to go back again!

A magnificent Country House Hotel with a good restaurant for both Dinner and Breakfast. Our room was large, well appointed and comfortable and the staff were very welcoming and attentive. Dinner menu was somewhat eclectic but the food was good and the dining room itself was a splendid place to eat, if a little noisy at times.

Two flying visits to our favourite Pig (we love them all but this is the best in our opinion!) - just time for lunch in The Folly on both occasions and as always it was perfect. The lady on lunchtime service (both times!) was absolutely delightful - and we loved her pizza earrings!! We had a plate of crackling and some freshly made flatbreads - all completely delicious. We can't wait for our stay in a couple of weeks! Even though the visits were only 2 days apart the weather couldn't have been more different! On Day 1 we were bathed in winter sunshine and on the following visit the place looked magical in the snow! Spectacular as always - they do everything so well - this is our happy place.

An amazing birthday meal out with a friend. The setting is stunning and the quality of food is impressive! There are lots of cosy rooms for drinks. We shared a delicious beef dish which was beautifully cooked. I would definitely return for another special occasion.

Lovely lunch venue for an anniversary treat. Great setting, bar area cosy with a relaxed vibe. Ordered wine before taken into the restaurant but not food. We had nearly finished our starters before the wine came which was disappointing. Overall, tasty and well presented, with friendly staff but a little on the expensive side for 2 drinks, 2 courses and a bottle of wine (£170)

We went for dinner on a Saturday night in the main restaurant, we had drinks first in the bar area. In terms of positives, the service was very good, both in the bar and in the restaurant. However the cocktails were not very nice and the food was average. My partner had steak which was nicely cooked, however the salad it came with was very basic, just leaves. The chips claimed to be thrice cooked were definitely only cooked once. I had monkfish, which wasn’t hot and was very overcooked and dry. It was a real shame, we won’t be returning. We are happy to pay the PIG prices but expect delicious food for that. The food at the fat otter in Ottery, or the Holt in Honiton is much nicer.
