East Indies Mansion oozes charm and is perfectly located, well managed - a delight. The jetties, Little India and numerous restaurants and cafes are a few minutes' walk away. The street is quiet, but the buzz in the immediate neighbourhood is noticeable. Note that there is no TV in the rooms, which is a blessing. As the hotel is old, soundproofing is not its strongest point, but this a minor quibble. Some larger rooms have beds on two floors and can easily accommodate a family (which is not entirely obvious on the website, so it is worth checking with them). Breakfast styles varies from one day to the next - sometimes Chinese, sometimes Western - no buffet. Staff are polite, efficient, discreet - a particular nod to Ms Kanmani, who handled our queries clearly and patiently.
