Quintinha São João Hotel & Spa

From the moment we walked into the hotel we were made to feel welcome and that our needs were top priority. Friendly staff and management. Courtesy host who gave us useful information about Madeira and tours etc. Very clean , comfortable rooms with balconies and views set in gorgeous tropical gardens. Short atmospheric walk into town. Good food, pools, spa .Definitely would stay there again

DO NOT COME‼️‼️⛔⛔⛔⛔ This place is a border line fraud. It might be a 5star Motel, NOT a 5 star Hotel. I also, fell into the trap of good reviews on Google maps and **********. Their photographer should get a pulitzer prize because the hotel does NOT look like the photos. We booked 5 nights and left after 2 nights because it was SO bad. They did not want to refund anything but the stay was so horrible we left even if it meant loosing a ~3 nights/~600$. Just some of the nuggets we had during our stay: -The place is OLD and not in a good way. Furniture and all infrastructure are have not been updated since hotel was built (90s?). They did zero upgrades since. - Nothing to eat for breakfast. Better food in McDonald's breakfast. No food for vegan people - we come to 5star places because they accommodate for all kinds of food restrictions - not this place (their response - "sorry. Chef is not here today" - what??) - last day room smelled like a sewer. I'm not exaggerating. Real, strong, distinct sewer smell like in a dark water treatment facility - AC from the 80s. Makes noises at night. You have a choice: stop sweating or sleep - dogs and wolves crying each night outside of the window at 1AM (I admit, not their fault) - only met one nice staff person throughout the whole stay - all furniture, tiles in bathroom, shower taps - everything is in old or broken state. You can't cover up sh*tty upkeep and call it an "old style hotel" Great 3star hotel, not 5!

This small hotel has a lot going for it. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the decoration throughout the hotel is charming, the location is pretty good (especially if you use the local bus service which is cheap with a day pass and efficient), the bar is comfortable and reasonably priced and the spa (we both had a massage) is great. Negatives: The quality of the food in the restaurant is inconsistent. Our first dinner was nice (although too rich for our taste - too much cream) but the second dinner was not good. The reception staff didn't disagree when I suggested that it must have been the head chef's night off! It was a Sunday. We had booked a twin room on the hotel's website but on arrival were put in a room with a small double bed and with a different room number to the one we'd been given on booking the hotel. They'd clearly switched our room but gave a daft excuse that "twin" includes rooms with only a double bed, which is nonsense. In the end this was resolved the next day when we were put in a different room with a super king sized bed which was fine. The room (number 110) was lovely and quiet. The guests are mainly old or middle aged so don't expect any wild nights in the hotel. Although the staff are friendly (especially in the spa), I think that they are a bit too impressed with themselves. Also we didn't see any of the managers/owners even at the evening drinks reception and it would have been better had they been there to talk to their guests.

Quintinha São João Hotel & Spa is a hidden gem in Madeira! This hotel exceeded all our expectations. The two pools are fantastic, especially the outdoor pool, surrounded by beautiful gardens. The spa circuit experience was truly incredible, and also offering a range of relaxing treatments. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made us feel at home. Our room was so comfortable with lovely views. If you're looking for a peaceful and luxurious retreat in Funchal, look no further than Quintinha.

Just a lovely place to base a holiday in Madeira in. The staff were endlessly helpful and always friendly and unhurried . The restaurant served reasonably priced excellent food all served by knowledgeable, friendly front of house staff , The beautifully maintained gardens were a joy to spend time in with a surprisingly good variety of birds and butterflies to enjoy and photograph.

My wife and I have just returned from this lovely hotel for the 5 th time (& 2 nd so far this year). We can honestly say that this is the best hotel we have ever had the pleasure to stay at. The rooms are excellent and are a great size and are kept spotlessly clean. The decor and ambience of the whole hotel is beautiful, with lovely antique furniture. Staff in all aspects of the hotel are so professional and friendly. The choice of food for both breakfast and evening meal is superb. The restaurant quality of food is absolutely 5 star and served by such professional staff who go out of their way to ensure you are enjoying your meal. Felipe, Eduardo, Alexander and Rada in the restaurant all work very hard, constantly filling the breakfast buffet etc. The ambience is so tranquil and the tables are beautifully dressed with lovely table linen and cutlery. We feel that Jet2 do not recommend the hotel and the restaurant highly enough on the booking website. We cannot forget to mention Rosie in Guest Relations who is always on hand to offer advice on walks and and any other activities you wish to do. She also provides bus timetables etc. Sitting in the area outside the bar in the beautiful garden setting is so relaxing and tranquil and you have the benefit of the daily happy hour. My wife had a massage from Daniella (during our January stay) & she found it so relaxing. We are very much looking forward to our next stay during November this year. Thanks very much once again for such an enjoyable stay. The staff are such a credit to the owner Andre. I apologise for my previous Trip Advisor review where I spelled Andre incorrectly. We are always recommending the Quintinha de Sao Joao to others, however, perhaps we should stop doing this as it may result in us not being able to book for ourselves.
