Just returned from a Countryside Getaway-deal, booked directly with the hotel. I booked the wrong date to start with and only realised the day before we were going! Phoned them and it got changed immediately without any issues or additional payment. When we arrived there was no problem checking in. However, as with some of the reviews, we also found the directions to our room were slightly vague. We got lost and seemed to go to the wrong area first, although eventually found it by looking at the sign (which are only clear if you know you’re in that wing!). On entering the room, it was extremely hot, and no air conditioning. There are windows, which would be good if you could open them wide enough to allow for more ventilation. However, something better than nothing. I noticed a fan in the room so assumed the heat had been mentioned previously. The bed was massive and very comfortable, although later found out, this too was very warm, with hot pillows and heavy bedspread. I said to my husband I wouldn’t like to be here in summer and for a bloke who’s always cold he actually agreed! The prices in the sports bar for drinks was ok. We had had a drink in the pub down the end of the track (Deer Inn) before checking in and the price for the identical drinks was the same there as in the sports bar at the hotel so not sure about the comments in other reviews about this. However, we live in South so are used to paying £6-£7 pint. Didn’t eat in the sports car but again prices not overly inflated. We had not booked the restaurant, thinking it was midweek so should be OK. However, at about 7:40pm when we got there, the manager said he could squeeze us in in half an hour, which I thought was very accommodating. We just went into sports bar for a drink. It was starting to get a bit rowdy in there, but nothing like a Wetherspoons rowdiness!!! Returned to the restaurant and was shown to our table. Waitress was very attentive and helpful and took our order for mains (we chose the 2 course option for £29.95 pp). I had the pan fried lamb. Husband had chicken supreme. Both agreed it was the best meal we had had in a very long time. Meat just melted in your mouth. We said we could have eaten it again, it was do delicious. We then both had the lemon tart for dessert. I have to say, not as delicious or mouth watering and certainly not as much attention given to presentation for the desserts. Clearly been sat plated in fridge for a bit and just a small slice on a rather large plate. When I saw the other desserts coming out for other tables they all seemed the same. Shame about this as but didn’t let it spoil the meal. We left there and went back to sports bar, which was less rowdy by this point. Breakfast was buffet style and we arrived about 9am and it is served until 10am. Only crusts left for toast, although I did not ask anyone so these may have been replenished if I had. Wow, what a venue, we had an Army Reunion there this past weekend and couldn't have picked a better venue. Fantastic rooms, fantastic gardens, fantastic food and fantastic staff. Nothing was too much for them, they looked after us good and proper. I would recommend this venue to any one looking for a nice quiet country retreat with little noise to annoy you. Go in June and the yellow roses by the door will be in full blossom. Catering for our 3 course dinner was impeccable. I can't really fault this hotel. Thanks FHH for a great weekend.

Countryside hotel in pleasant surroundings. We received a friendly welcome on arrival and were checked in promptly. The bedroom, although not large was clean and comfortable. The receptionist was helpful in providing us with local information. The buffet breakfast catered for most tastes and varied from Full English to cereals, fruit and pastries. A special mention goes to Janet who worked her socks off, was very hospitable and who personally cooked me scrambled eggs. She did the work of two people and certainly deserves some recognition (and a pay rise) for her hard work and making sure guests feel welcome and at home.

Travelodge Alton Four Marks provides flawless service and all the necessary facilities for visitors. Throughout the day and night, guests can enjoy light refreshments with the hotel offering vending machines.

The hotel looks bright and modern, with a decent car park. The many many signs all over the place about fines if you don’t register your vehicle make the parking and hotel entry somewhat intimidating. If they are concerned about parking. Why not just have a barrier with a token from reception to exit? Reception was friendly and we had a room on the ground floor with a lovely view of a ****y bank of earth through a rather small window. The room was clean, well appointed but the ceiling lighting was awfully dim. The bathroom was clean but we didn’t feel that entry/exit from the bath was very safe if you had limited mobility. Dinner in the restaurant was extremely disappointing. The space is modern and the kitchen is open, but the service, though very friendly was extremely and embarrassingly slow. This needs to attended to. The place was not at all busy. In the end we went to the bar to get a drink to fill in the waiting time. Someone on a neighbouring table waited ages for a beer which was served flat and had to wait a long long time for a replacement. Our tear and share bread was so over cooked, we struggled to cut it with a pizza wheel. The fish and chips were very tasty and well presented. The tagliatelle was over cooked and the sauce completely tasteless. The only flavour in the dish came from the nice garlic prawns added as an extra. We decided against deserts as we anticipated another very long wait. While we were there a neighbouring table was re-occupied but was not sanitised between guests. This could have been so much better! Breakfast was easier because it’s self serve, but it was busy and the few staff were unable to keep pace so tables took a long time to be cleared and longer to be cleaned. We had to get our own cutlery as this job was also slow. Breakfast selection and quality was quite acceptable. We were happy with the hotel but it was badly let down by the extremely slow dinner service.

Nice hotel, warm winter and cool summer, no air conditioning (no air conditioning), the temperature difference between morning and evening is very big, pay attention to the increase of clothes, the town is very warm, it is too expensive to go to London train

We stopped in here just for drinks and sat outside on the sunshine opposite the pond. The service at the bar was prompt, friendly and efficient. We spent about two hours just relaxing on the comfy seats looking at the wildlife and just chatting. We had a look at the amazing full-size metal horses which are pulling an open topped metal wagon which has numerous sacks stacked on the back. Anyway, it is really brilliant here and the whole location is mesmerising. Certainly, worth a visit. We have actually stayed here in the past and our memories of those visits were excellent. Plenty of hotel parking for guests behind the spa area.
