Gable House Bed and Breakfast Inn

We stayed 3 nights and would like to give a wonderful review. This is a very beautiful restored home close walking distance to the historic downtown area of Durango. We loved the tips of innkeeper Tracy and history/stories of Charlie, both delightful people who care about everything guests would need. Lots of thoughtfulness to make stay relaxing and enjoyable.

Quaint and quiet bed and breakfast located within walking distance of down town Durango . Clean rooms with original historic charm . Homemade breakfast and great conversation with our host. My wife and I Enjoyed sitting on our balcony in the evening and reading . Only negative is our mattress was worn out and we both end up having a difficult time sleeping . Center of mattress sagged to where we both ended up .

The many extraordinary reviews for the Durango “Gable House” are accurate. We only bother to review really, really bad or really, really good venues, and the Gable House definitely falls into the latter grouping. The building itself is an exceptional destination. This large, warm and cozy vintage Victorian home is an experience unto itself. It’s obvious that it has been restored with care and at tremendous expense. And, its history is remarkable, as can be narrated by Charlie with captivating details during the outstanding breakfasts. That, and Charlie can marvelously pontificate on so many topics concerning everything from Durango’s formidable history to local politics and economic issues. Breakfast can be an information buffet in itself; and, especially so with regard to the most unusual guests that seem to converge in the dining room each morning. Per the breakfast grub, Trish is a passionate chef and dazzled us with her innovative culinary creations. That noodle fajita the first morning was a somewhat spiritual encounter, and the culinary landscape changed with each day. However, these breakfasts left us with minimal interest in another meal until much later in the day, a somewhat distressing circumstance give the terrific dining to be had in downtown Durango – which is but a short walking distance from the Gable House. One can lose oneself for hours merely meandering past the businesses lining Main Street, as the many stores are immensely creative in both presentation and the goods they purvey. Per Charlie and Trish, they are truly magnificent hosts and provide a level of hospitality which easily equals and even exceeds that of many 5-Star hotels that we have visited around the world. They made themselves available for the most trivial requests, and were continuously interested in how we were doing. They daily inquired as to how they might make improvements to their B&B. But, with the superb mattress, great sheets, lush towels, wonderful furniture and a terrific room, we were left stumped as to how they could up the experience. In short, we could have never left the house, to visit the surrounding areas, and been quite content ensconced within this comfortable environ – i.e., as we can easily become immersed in the books that we travel with. Yet, after visiting Durango’s many remarkable surrounding attractions, it was a true pleasure to be embraced by the Gable House at the end of each day. So, in summary, between Durango and the Gable House itself, one can have a most memorable interlude in both respects.

My wife and I just completed a 5,000 mile 4 week road trip with stays in Yellowstone, MT, Breckenridge, CO, Durango, CO, Ouray, CO, Telluride, CO, Park City, UT and Eastern Oregon. Of all those stays, the Gable House BnB was our favorite, made possible by the wonderful hosts Charlie and Tracie. From the historic Schutt room, to conversations with Charlie about history/area information/restaurants, etc. to Tracie's great breakfasts, every aspect of our stay was memorable and comfortable. Our room had a small balcony that we enjoyed daily, the house has so much history that you can see and feel at every step. Charlie an Tracie's information about the area must-sees, restaurants and drives was spot on and made for fun filled days. We stayed four nights but could have easily stayed four more. The Gable House is in the middle of a charming residential area, a short walk to the downtown district for the Durango-to-Silverton railroad, shopping and restaurants. The only time we took our vehicle was during our site-seeing day when we went to the Aztec ruins and Chaco Canyon in New Mexico. For a good exercise test, take the sky stairs close to the house. We also enjoyed hanging out with the BnB dogs Dozer and Jessie. Durango is on our list for a return visit and we will certainly be staying at the Gable House again. Can't recommend this BnB and the hosts enough. Jeff H.

The Gable House BnB was our favorite stay of our 3 week Colorado road trip. That's saying something with all the great lodging choices we had. Charley and Tracie (hosts) were fantastic and we very much enjoyed our daily discussions with them. Tracie's breakfasts were on-point and so delicious. They were varied and ample. The Gable House has a lot of history and we never got tired of hearing about it, exploring it and enjoying our room with a balcony. The residential area is fantastic and it's only a short walk to the primary eating establishments, the railroad and shopping. The grounds of the Gable House are well manicured and inviting and we enjoyed exploring there as well. And, of course, the BnB dogs Dozer and Jessie were a treat to interact with. Can't recommend the Gable House BnB more and when we head back to Durango, we'll be sure to stay again.

Our experience was wonderful. The host/owners were were most pleasant & accommodating. The pictures of the house don't do it justice. It is a immaculate down to the last detail. We enjoyed our one evening sitting at one of the yard benches in our bare feet taking in the lush grass and beautiful garden surroundings. Our room (Heather) was pristine . In the morning (6am) we served ourselves coffee and tea from the third floor common area before conversation on the porch with one of the other guests. Our host joined in just before our hot delicious & large (eggs, bacon , fruit) breakfast was served (8am-ish). Our host's joined for a bit to share the homes history and surrounding area activities. Great house, lovely room, delicious breakfast. The inkeepers are lovely people. The inn is from walking distance drom downtown Durango with nice shops and good restaurants. A great place te explore the surrounding area, Silverton and Ouray.

Tracie makes a great breakfast. There is an upstairs outdoor( above the front entrance) sitting area that is wonderful, especially in the evening!

The Gable House is a beautiful place with all the comforts of home. The hosts Charlie and Tracie are warm and welcoming. I can’t say enough about the delicious breakfast served by Tracie. There’s a beautiful common area on the third floor designed for relaxation and equipped with snacks that was a nice addition. And the rooms are tastefully decorated. Thank you for a memorable stay.
