We have made Hotel Winneshiek our home base for our week long visits the last two years during our Autumn visits to northern Iowa. The hotel is perfectly located, plenty of parking, rooms feel elegant with amazing window treatments and lobby furniture. Breakfast options are plentiful….actually one of the best we have experienced!! I love the coffee machine which brews up a great americano. We look forward to our trips to northern Iowa during the fall and have made Decorah our home base because of the comfort and historic feel of the Hotel Winneshiek.

Executive king bed room was dark and depressing. We switched to a King suite at a cost of a $120 more. We had more room, and a microwave, sink and an extra 1/2 bath. Arrangement of room was a bit strange. Drapery needed reattaching to hooks. TVs were small and only offered cable. TV guide provided the channels, but had a message "to be announced" on each channel so you didn't know what was available. Dining room was closed. Appetizers only in bar after 5 p.m. Breakfast was "express" - muffins, bananas and cereal. For $250 a night, much more was expected.

45th wedding anniversary. We liked walking in town. We went to Impact for coffee once the breakfast lounge closed at 9:30.

Stayed in Decorah for the NE Iowa Artisian Studio tour. Picked this hotel for the convenience to downtown. Was conveniently located to many shopping stores and bars/restaurants. Would return and stay again.

A beautiful historic hotel in the middle of downtown, near many cute stores and an even better museum. We stayed on a Sunday night, it was very quiet. Clean, clean bathrooms, a great bed mattress and comfortable white linens. Free continental breakfast.

We were on a leaf-peeping trip with two other couples and decided to stay in this iconic hotel having never been there before. The location of this hotel is great. Right in the middle of downtown. Free parking is definitely a plus. The interior lobby and bar are really impressive and one would think, “Oh this is going to be great”. Well it was all downhill from there. The clerk checking us in was welcoming and lovely but everyone else we encountered … not so much. The bartender was “brusk” at best. The individual attending to what they call breakfast seems put out and angry. The checkout was efficient but anything but friendly. And the “breakfast” might be the worst we’ve ever encountered in any hotel. Our room was clean but quite small with too few A/C outlets. The HVAC is also interesting but confounding. All in all, what we hoped would be an iconic step back in time was more than disappointing. I would not stay there again. Sorry.

Beautiful building in the heart of Decorah, and well appointed rooms and gorgeous interiors. Staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.
