A recent visit to Detroit led me to stay at the Hampton Inn by Hilton Detroit Dearborn, and the experience was a mixed bag with its own set of highs and lows. Pros: The hotel boasts a fantastic location, conveniently nestled near a variety of shops and restaurants, which made exploring the area an absolute breeze. Despite a somewhat rocky check-in process, presumably due to the desk clerk being new and in training, the staff overall was polite and made efforts to be accommodating. The room was decent, providing a comfortable enough stay with the basic amenities you'd expect, though it did show signs of wear. Cons: Parking proved to be a significant inconvenience. The options were a cramped parking lot adjacent to the hotel or a more spacious one a short walk away. Neither option was ideal, and the added unexpected cost of parking was an unwelcome surprise. The lobby and hotel floorplan were somewhat dysfunctional, which could be disorienting for guests navigating the property. While the hotel's location is undeniably great and the staff tries their best under the circumstances, the challenges with parking and the wear visible in the rooms detract from the overall experience. It's worth considering for those prioritizing location and who are flexible about parking and the condition of the room. However, be aware of the parking fees and potentially uneven service due to staff training. Recommended with caveats.
