The Royal Castle Hotel

We liked everything! It's a perfect location for all the highlights of the area. Our bedroom was beautiful & it overlooked the River Dart. The breakfast was scrumptious with a great choice of food. The hotel is very interesting & the history attached to it is fascinating. The staff we met during our stay - Jodie, James, Leanne & Theresa - were very nice, helpful & professional.

A four night stay inspired by an earlier one night stay in July. Wonderful view over the harbour from both room 1 and room 18 but I’m sure all the rooms overlooking the harbour have a similar atmospheric outlook. The staff are attentive, friendly and helpful and the domestic staff are unbelievably jovial and enthusiastic. It is an old property and of course lends it characteristics to the overall experience, floors creak, windows despite the efforts of double glazing allow some street sounds and some visitors would argue for more renovation and refurbishment but I’m sure that would price out quite a substantial of the current clientele … so my 5* relates to the effort made, the cleanliness and the overall experience of a four night stay. We didn’t eat at the hotel for no other reason than we had made other prior arrangements but we had drinks and the ambiance was delightful… a few local elderly characters entertained us. It’s going to remain a go to stay when visiting South Devon.

Just had a great stay over at the Royal Castle while visiting Dartmouth. Have to say from start to finish the hotel was great. Lovely staff, superb food (evening meal and breakfast) and spot on location. The weather was spot on too. Highly recommended!

Wow, what a stay. Arrived for 1 night only but wish we had longer! Check in was smooth, very friendly and informative. Bar service was efficient and welcoming. As for the room, the view we had was second to none. The bed was super comfy, our welcome drink was greatly appreciated, comfy seating area in the window and the large bathroom with plenty of toiletries was well received. Perfect location too , being central 👌 Highly recommend anyone visiting the area to stay here

We really enjoyed thestay at the Royal Castle Hotel, especially after our long, six-hour walk from Beesands. The staff were really friendly and helpful and made our stay truly comfortable. The dinner menu was varied and the quality of the fish excellent.

Booked Sunday lunch today in the restaurant upstairs. A special celebration! On arrival , the restaurant is closed. A table in the bar was available but not what we wanted. The only Sunday lunch option was Pork. The food and plate was cool and tasteless. We couldn’t wait to leave! The bar is in poor decorative order as well. This was a real disappointment. We live in Dartmouth and have used the Castle for Sunday lunch before when the restaurant was available and the food offering what we expected. It’s time to close the doors!

Great place. I've stayed in Dartmouth a lot but never been inside this hotel. Well how silly was that! This place is amazing. It is clean, well decorated, full of quirky charm, the staff are attentive and genuine without being bothersome, the bedroom was cosy, there were treats plus a bed and towel for my traveling companion Reggie, the Irish Terrier, and they even gave him his own sausage at breakfast whilst I ate the filling English breakfast option. There was a continental buffet with all the usual fare that I am sure my wife would have enjoyed if she was available for this brief trip to lovely Dartmouth. Oh and the view from the breakfast restaurant was stunning. I'll definitely be back!

Msyself and my partner Stayed here for the dartmouth regatta, the hotel was postioned right in the center of the town with great views and lovely staff! Had drinks in the downstairs bar before we explored and had dinner there one night too with lovely food!

We loved our stay here. It was a beautifully positioned hotel - and our room had a lovely view!! We had both dinner and breakfast here and both meals were excellent. Great place for a drink downstairs as well!! From our room we had a spectacular view of the sunrise over the harbour in the morning!!
