This was an unscheduled stay in Istanbul at a hotel. Turkish Airlines booked me into the hotel as my flight arrived late and I missed my connecting flight. The hotel itself is a very nice building, and the rooms are very spacious. The bathrooms are also very nice. We arrived at the hotel at around 8:00 p.m., and we were told that our dinner would be served at 9:00 p.m. When I arrived at the dining room, it was fairly empty apart from one or two other guests. When I walked in, I met the head person on duty who was standing behind the reception. I politely said hello to him, but he did not even answer me. When I asked if I could sit and whether it was a buffet or à la carte, he very arrogantly told me to just sit down and wait for the waiter to come. I asked if they had any pescatarian or vegetarian food, and he just replied "no." At this point, the waiter showed up, so I asked him, and he said they had a vegetarian soup and a pasta dish. The waiter kept telling me that they only do à la carte. When I asked him to show me the à la carte menu, he gave me a barcode to scan, which only displayed two dishes: a pizza and another beef dish, with the pizza being a chicken pizza. As the waiter spoke very little English, I asked the head waiter once again if these were the only dishes they had. He again answered very rudely and said those were the only options available and it was à la carte. At the same time, one of the other guests heard me talking to the head waiter and came up to where I was standing, also telling the head waiter that he was very arrogant and rude. The head waiter just gave him a dirty look and walked away. This surprised me. While he was walking away, I asked him why he was being so arrogant, at which point he just looked at me and kept walking. Finally, a very watered-down version of lentil soup followed by microwaved pasta with some tomato sauce arrived. Unfortunately, both were totally tasteless. The only people I spoke with at the hotel who were very nice but spoke very limited English. The men at the reception were also pretty arrogant. I was speaking to one of the staff members who told me that Turkish Airlines pays them very little for each passenger, and that's why they provide very limited service to the people booked in by Turkish Airlines. I can understand that it might be limited service, but I do not understand why they have to be so arrogant and rude to their clients. Also, be aware that at the restaurant you cannot sign your bill to the room and pay by credit card afterwards. They want you to pay in cash or by credit card as soon as you finish the meal.
