Orchid Bay Resort

Getting to the resort is a headache, we waited 1hr to cross one bridge and the second bridge took about 45 mins. The resort definitely does not look like the pictures on line. Only about a quarter of the beach is accessible the rest has mangroves. The Casita we stayed in was dusty and dingy. Cushions on chairs were stained. The bathroom vanity was disgusting. The toilet was not bolted down and rocked when you sat on it. We were booked for 5 nights and we left after the first night. The food in the restaurant was delicious.

If you are looking for a personalized experience then Orchid Bay is the place to go. We went with a group of couples to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The resort owner personally tended to our group and organized all our activities. Just about every day we went out on the boat to snorkel, swim, fish and explore the Belize islands. On the excursions the staff took the most amazing care of us, tending to all our needs. Bottomless beverages and more food than anyone should eat but it was all too delicious to turn down. The hosts were very knowledgeable about the wildlife and history of the area. Wherever we went, they would point out animals that we would have otherwise overlooked, such as crocodiles and reptiles. It made the experience extra exciting. The bungalows are perched along the ocean’s edge with a nice path that lead to the resort amenities (pool, bar, restaurant). They were clean and comfortable with surprisingly modern appliances. They would comfortably fit a family. We chose to eat out every night but could have easily made meals at the house. Overall, I was super impressed with the staff. They were the BEST! They took such good care of us. They seemed to genuinely care that we were having a great time.

The bridges and ferry was such an inconvenience.

From the first communication with the General Manager of the property to the final trip to the airport, David and his team excelled in EVERYTHING they did for us. Four couples for my 60th BDay and WOW what an incredible experience! Mayan Ruins, fishing, tours of outer islands and river cruises. Then the meals the team prepared where seafood spectacular! We LOVED it ALL!! Go visit!

Nice casita, clean with all the amenities. Used the pool and chilled at the beach.

The resort was excellent. Hospitality was great. Only suggestion I would make is to add some lighting around the casitas. It is very dark at night

This is gorgeous and quiet property that it’s worth staying.

This property looks amazing in the posted photos but it’s not even close. Firstly it is so remote, you have to drive a very long dirt road full of potholes and take 2 crank across ferries ( that are falling apart ) to get there . The front desk is a table set up in the bar. The staff are very slow to help with anything. We ordered a large plate of fries and it took almost an hour to get them and there were about 20 fries on the plate for about 15 dollars. We paid extra to have a beach view and our view was a bit of water through a dense mangrove . The tvs did not work, the microwave oven did not work, the ceiling fan in the bedroom was extremely noisy, the towels and sheets had holes and we had a family of ants living in the kitchen. There was no offer of help brining our bags in and very vague overview of the resort facilities upon check in. This is supposed to be a secure , gated resort but they allow anyone to come in. We wanted to relax on the beach for a few days but all of the beach chairs, tables and palapas were taken by non guests . Thankfully we were able to cut our stay here short and go to a better place. I would not recommend staying here .
