I liked the most among European hotels I went to this time on my honeymoon.
It's a small but lovely and very pretty hotel.
When I was curious, it was said that it was built in 1829, but it is in excellent condition. It was rather antique and very good.
When you open the window, the view is so pretty as if it were in a fairy tale.
In the plaza in front, they perform performances, and they are gathered right in front of the bar restaurant, so the location is the best.
If I go back to Porto, I will definitely stay at this hotel!!
(Breakfast is tidy, but there are too few eggplants.)

DO NOT GET ROOMS 51, 41, 31, 21 (next to elevator) otherwise worth a stay. This is a good hotel. However having been here twice, some notes for fellow travelers. - If you are light sleeper like me, DO NOT get any rooms 51 and so on next to the elevators. WOW it is not stop intermittent mechanical noise night and day. - Try and get a top floor room with a terrace. The other rooms are not bad, yet they have the wood flooring that looks cool and works fine, yet when house keeping starts their clean ups, they slide the beds over the wood which makes for more noise if you are trying to sleep in late. - Bed is comfortable, bathroom is sizable, but not too large. - Hotel is very new-school contemporary. - Breakfast is good. Coffee machine is the usual auto job, whatever… - House keeping could be bit more detail focused. There was a smashed bug on the wall near the bed. No big deal, yet a simple wipe with a sponge would have covered that.

Stayed here for three nights on a visit to Porto, and I cannot say enough about how great this apartment was. I’ve been to 32 counties, and this was one of the coolest, places I’ve ever stayed. I had the studio apartment, and there was more than enough room for me to spread out. (Would be perfect for two people as well.) The bedroom had windows, but it was very warm when I visited, so it was nice close them and feel like I was in my own little cave. The water pressure was amazing, and the shower was perfect after the steep hills of Porto. Elizabeth greeted me at the top of the stairs and helped me lug my bag down (and helped me lug it back up when I checked out). She was so friendly and welcoming. She recommended some “must-sees” and even left me a cake from the bakery! I agree with the other reviewers that this is not for guests with any mobility issues. But if you want to experience “the real Porto,” this is the apartment for you.

This is the finest hotel I have ever stayed in. In addition to the exquisite decor and quality furnishings, what makes this a five star hotel is the incredible staff. They bend over backwards to ensure your stay is memorable. There was a bottle of champagn on ice in our room to welcome us. On my way out to go to the store, one of the staff asked what we were getting. I replied outlet adapters. He replied ”no need, I'll have a couple brought up to the room. When we were checking out, they gave us a breakfast-to-go bag which included juice, yogurt, fruit and pastries. When I asked about an ice machine, they brought a bucket of ice up to the room. Turn down service included chocolates and sometimes berries. House labeled bottled water in the room was gratis. Once she showed up with a couple of breaded, fried shrimp tapas. Shout out to the breakfast staff as well. They were cheery and professional at all times. The crystal chandeliers, deep pile rugs, spotless interiors, classic architectural touches, incredible service and a very relaxing vibe all add up to the finest travel experience one could hope for. Everything about Torel is breathtaking.

Good News: Staff is great, especially Joanna and Marina (?) at front desk, and Paulo (?) and other bellman Overall decor is dated and needs refurbishing. Comments re: rooms… Room 234: Larger and very quiet with robe/slippers. Headboard is torn. Bathroom door in the way of toilet & bidet; need to close door to access. … Rm 232: Corner Suite. Beautiful but TOO NOISY. Despite wearing earplugs, closing double-paned windows + lowering electronic blackout shades outside bedroom window, still had trouble sleeping due to street noise (trucks, motorcycles, etc). Noise through evening and early morning hours when bins picked up. Windows need another layer to soundproof… Room 411: New side of hotel, VERY small room; no slippers/robe offered, better layout of bathroom. No view but very quiet. Bad news: For the amount charged per room (almost €200/night or more) + standard hotel tries to maintain, complimentary coffee and water should be available every day of stay, not just day #1. Beautiful view and good food from rooftop bar but VERY SLOW service. Tips: Location is by river so about 1-2 miles from city center which is uphill from hotel. Other option is to use Uber. Tram stop and supermarket conveniently located within 1-2 blocks of hotel. Can take tram toward Dom Luis Bridge to check out restaurants with great river views: Bacalhau (very small and don’t take reservations) or Vinhas d’Alho restaurant next door, takes reservations and has more outdoor seats. Overall: Wonderful, helpful and accommodating staff in lovely location but you could find better value other places, like the many ”AL” accommodations (private apartments similar to Airbnb).

Abbiamo soggiornato presso la guesthouse Maria da Se' (ora si chiama così), nel centro storico, e abbiamo ricevuto un'accoglienza e un'attenzione straordinari in ogni momento, dall'arrivo in aeroporto, dove Fausto e Maria ci hanno pazientemente aspettato nonostante l'enorme ritardo del volo, al momento dell'arrivo in stanza, dove abbiamo trovato un dolcissimo benvenuto con pasteis de nata e bicchierino di Porto, fino al momento in cui abbiamo lasciato la guesthouse e siamo stati riaccompagnati in aeroporto. La struttura - ospitata in un palazzetto del centro storico, a due passi dalla Cattedrale e a dieci minuti di passeggiata dal lungofiume di RIbeira - , è semplice ma accogliente, la colazione è molto buona e resa ancora più gradevole dalla attenta presenza dei gestori. Fausto, Maria ed Helena sono stati sempre attenti alle nostre richieste ed esigenze, dandoci tantissime informazioni utili sulle cose da vedere, sui negozi dove comprare souvenir (e spesso accompagnandoci!), sui ristoranti e le trattorie dove pranzare e cenare. Fausto ha organizzato una splendida giornata nella valle del Douro (per altro a prezzi decisamente inferiori a quelli offerti dalle agenzie) , durante cui ci ha accompagnato con gentilezza e pazienza regalandoci ulteriori informazioni preziose... una compagnia davvero eccellente, non avremmo potuto desiderare di meglio! Insomma, nel giro di pochi giorni possiamo dire di aver trovato degli splendidi amici a Porto e non possiamo che raccomandare a tutti un soggiorno presso questa guesthouse!

VVoyager22474143875Recently stayed here as part of my husbands 70th birthday, hotel kindly upgraded us to a deluxe room and there was a small cake waiting for us which was a lovely touch. The room was really lovely, only downside is that they only give you 1 free bottle of water per visit and only few pods for coffee machine which given it was a deluxe room a bit poor. However, apart from this small glitch, everything else we could not fault at the hotel. Bed was very comfortable, reception staff were very helpful in advising us on on areas to visit. Lovely continental breakfast and cooked one but not to order so on hot plates instead, local restaurants nearby which I would recomend are Solar Moinho de Vento & Meia Nau, which are both 5 mins walk away.

At beginning the reception assigned me one room at 4th floor exactly in front of jackhammer operators, which made the same noises as in war scenario with 2 beds.
Then after my immediate big complain reception have assigned me another room, #209. Different scenario : that was in front of a concrete grinding crane arrives from 8pm in the morning until 10pm in the evening. at 7am the noises of the vehicles began with the relative movement alarm and in the evening after 10pm the workers who hammer gradually finished at 1am in the night. all i have timed videos to prove my experience. I asked several times to assign me a room ON OTHER SIDE (that are outside the ”war operation area”) but answer was always _ ”SORRY SIR, THE ROOM ON BACKSIDE ARE FULL AND WE DO NOT HAVE SPACE AVAILABLE” .
Today at check out I have asked a discount, as feedback the receptionist charged me 20EUR more for 2 peer juices I have got from minibar......
I do not know how to describe this experience, I have been many times in Intercontinental and I have been always satisfied.... BESIDE THIS LAST TRIP THAT IS REALLY SOMETHING I WANT TO FORGET

GGuest UserI have stayed in this hotel recently for weeks on end, so I think I can write with some authority about what kind of hotel it is and what can go wrong from the customer's point of view. Perhaps the biggest issue is noise. There appears to be little soundproofing between the rooms, and it is clearly unfit for purpose. Worse still is how the noise can sometimes be dealt with. On a recent visit I had a very unpleasant experience on my first night back to the hotel. At 1am, there was a lot of noise from the room of one of my neighbours. I called reception and spoke with Claudio, the person in charge. I explained the situation and asked to change to another room. Claudio sounded sceptical and said he was going to check the room from where I said the noise seemed to be coming. I told him that I was hearing noise not from the corridor but from my room, and predicted that he might not necessarily hear anything from the corridor. He phoned me back and said: ”the weirdest thing is that I heard no noise”. I told him it wasn’t at all “weird” and reminded him of what I had said. He suggested that I move to the room next door - the other side of the room from where the noise was coming. I told him I wanted to move away from, not stay beside, the noisy room. Soon after I moved to the new room, a couple entered a neighbouring room and started to shout and argue. I spoke to Claudio again. He sounded even more impatient now, and again expressed doubt that there was any noise occurring. He told me that I could move to yet another room - but warned me: ”you will still have neighbours no matter where you go.” It was now after 2am, and I was exhausted. Claudio's badge was not visible as he walked in front of me, and so I asked him what his name was. He turned around and said ”Claudio” and then pointed to his badge and said, sarcastically, ”you can see it on my badge.” I asked him not to patronise me, that I was not stupid, and also that I did not have to be reminded that there are always neighbours in a hotel. I reminded him that, as a frequent visitor to Eurostars hotels (I had spent almost 4 of the previous 12 months living in them in and around Porto) that I had never encountered such unprofessional, patronising, rude and arrogant behaviour from a Eurostars employee or one from any other hotel. Eurostars later asked me to give an account of my stay there. I told them about the above experience. I did not receive any response from them. However, when I spoke about the incident to the manager, Marco, he told me he was aware of my complaint. His position about it was strangely ambivalent. After apologising, he qualified the apology with: “I would ask you to look at it from our point of view.” His point that we all have bad nights. True enough, but there are limits to what a customer should be expected to tolerate. GGuest UserWhen we arrived we did the paperwork and payment quickly, then we saw the room, we stayed in a room with bunk beds, a double bed, very decent and clean.
Since we were going to do tourism, we asked at the hostel itself for places to see, they very kindly told us where we could go and gave us a map.
That night we also asked where we could go out for drinks and were told several options.
We didn't get to eat anything there, but everything looked very good.
