Good stay, but the apartments could be better, there were no curtains on the kitchen windows and slightly uncomfortable beds

This hotel is an amazing retreat! Surprisingly you can't hear the noise from the racing track just nearby. The staff is very nice and attentive. The location is great if you want to be in a quiet part of the Algarve (30 minutes from Portimão). The breakfast is great. It has variety and the products are fresh and high quality. The hotel has an amazing outdoor swimming pool, unfortunately the it was too windy and we were not able to enjoy it. The Jacuzzi and the indoor swimming pool are great too! The room is as in the pictures, it is big and the decoration is modern. Overall, we recommend this hotel if you want to enjoy a quiet retreat in the Algarve!

Reviewed the hotel last year on trip advisor and sadly not a lot has changed. The previous reviewer hit the nail on the head with his comments. We were told that there had been no significant rainfall since April and consequently only the greens were permitted to be watered by orders of the Portugese authorities. The greens were in fact okay but the fairways an absolute horror show.We used preferred lies on the fairways,but sometimes it was difficult to find a decent lie within the allowed area. In some areas of the fairway there was no grass at all just bare soil.Our other complaint was the condition of the bunkers. In some areas too much sand and in the base of certain bunkers the sand was like concrete. This is not down to a lack of water, a lack of skill, or interest, more likely.Spoke to other Penina regulars who echoed our concerns about the state of the course. Couldn’t repeat what one guy said about the Resort course!!We all love Penina and want it back to what the course was like ten years ago. Improvements like painting the front of the hotel and general upgrades in and around the hotel are a move in the right direction but they must remember people come to Penina for the golf and the course MUST improve .We hear the same story every year, that by next year things will be much better, let’s hope so.On the plus side the majority of staff are excellent, big shout out for Asad at breakfast and Marianna in Le Grill restaurant.As a venue it is perfect , fall out of bed into a fantastic breakfast, clubs on buggies awaiting your arrival at the pro shop and onto the first tee. No humping clubs around or squeezing into mini buses to be transported to your course.So many pluses , but at present the course is a big minus. However for what we paid for six days golf on the Championship course and excellent bed and breakfast we found it a bargain.With investment ( and rain) Penina could be great again- fingers crossed!!

We spent 4 days here and I cannot complain about a single thing. The service was fantastic, Francisco makes the best espresso martinis we have ever tasted. The hotel is quite and relaxing, exactly what we were looking for. Alvor is a beautiful town and the hotel is located about a 5/10 minute walk from all the restaurants and shops. There is a supermarket 5 minutes away too that stocks everything you would need for a self catering holiday. The room itself was huge and had a gorgeous view of the pool which got the sun all day long. The pool itself was spotless & there were always enough sun loungers for us. Would definitely recommend and will absolutely be back!

This is a lovely small hotel in Alvor, I wouldn't call in luxurious but its clean and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Great location only a few minutes walk to all the bars and restaurants, huge supermarket a couple of minutes walk behind the hotel for all the essentials. Beach is a little further, maybe 10-15 minutes walk but taxi's are readily available. We had a Junior Suite which was very spacious, the bed was extremely comfy, the bedding good quality and plenty of pillows. All the windows have electric shutters which are amazing at blocking out all light at night. Our room faced the road and yes it is quite busy during the day, quietens down at night, however these front facing rooms get the best views and afternoon sun. Lovely powerful, walk in shower, great water pressure. The pool area is very well maintained, all new sunbeds and parasols, no real issues getting a sunbed either. The bar offers a good selection of drinks and the snacks available are tasty and generous portions. The breakfast room is in the basement, so no views while enjoying your morning toast, however its clean, the hot and cold food selection is very good, the staff are attentive and continually replenishing everything. I only had 2 little issues that could elevate the experience further, firstly the quality of the towels in the rooms, they were not great, considering how lovely the bed linen was. Secondly, tea and coffee sachets supplied on arrival, but not refreshed during the week, this is a welcome thing only. In all, this is a great hotel, we would definitely return.

Really had a comfortable stay at this resort. The room/bathroom although dated is spotless and cleaned daily if you choose. The Garden area has is fantastic and well maintained. The exterior has just been painted I seen it happen the interior must have been also painted recently cause it looked fresh and again spotless. The food anytime I visited was fine and never had an issue finding something, I didn't visit all the time cause I wanted to explore some dining and bars in the lovely town. Any staff I encountered where brilliant couldn't complain about any of them, in particular the bar staff at night I found to be extremely friendly. The only reason I didn't gave 5 stars is although comfortable the night time bar is not big enough if hotel is in full swing and to get a drink you would have to sit in exterior part and go upstairs to get a drink. One other watch out our transfer in was a minibus which was fine, but going out was a coach and I had to bring up 4 cases to the top of resort, which is quite a hill a few minutes walk if there is visitors with mobility issues this would need to be a concern. But quite simply put i had a fantastic stay in a clean friendly resort, with a choice of food with a lovely town which would be a 20 minute walk or 4-5 euro taxi, there is a complimentary bus in town but last run is at 1700 .

This was our 5th time staying at the AlvorMar, we normally travel as a couple but on this occassion our family of 5 travelled. The apartment was a 2 bedroom is was very spacious loads of room, beds where comfy, balcony huge, cooking facilities if required, fresh towels, bedlinen spotless, apartment cleaned every day except Sunday. We have stayed previous in the premium 1 bedroom we are exceptional also. The pool is fantastic with a great pool bar serving food and drink and roof terrace is perfect for great sea views and relaxing. Having travelled to Alvor on many occcasions without doubt the AlvorMar is the best place to stay. It is minutes to the gorgeous beach and seconds to the town. The staff are very friendly and helpful and its just the perfect location. Thank you AlvorMar for another great stay, we will be back in July.
