Distant relatives is the perfect place to stay in Kilifi. The whole staff is very friendly and make you feel like family. My wife and I arrived during off season, so when we showed up at 04:30 there was already a room available even though our check in was technically not until 12:00 that day. Mohammed at the bar made sure we were taken care of whenever we wanted something to eat or drink. The food and drink prices were reasonable, after 5 days we only spent around $100 USD. The pool was our favorite spot to sit and relax while reading our books. But reception was also able to help us call a Tuk Tuk into town and to the white sandy beaches and that was about $10 USD round trip. Beware of the Vervet monkeys though, they live in the trees surrounding the property and they will steal your food if you turn your eyes for even just a second! The toilets outside the Bandas are composting toilets, and that isn’t for everyone, but they do have traditional flush toilets as well near the pool area.

Baobab Sea Lodge is an old hotel with an amazing location and great staff. Everyone is very friendly and ready to support my stay. The beach is amazing from this location. It's BOFA beach. I stayed in a seaview room. The views from the room are what I would call partial seaview but great none the less. I found the rooms a bit dark with not enough natural light. However, it's was a comfortable room . There was a nice gazebo by the pool where you could sit and watch the ocean from but other than that there arent enough covered spaces where you can sit or lounge seafront. There is a beach bar but when it's drizzling you can't really sit there. Some upgrades to the rooms and outdoor sitting spaces would make this a fantastic hotel. WiFi doesn't reach the rooms but since I was trying to be off technology, that didn't bother me much. We were such few guests that the hotel didn't have the usual breakfast buffet. We were served at the table but I feel they could have still printed a menu and offered us some options.

We chose this hotel because we wanted peace and quiet and deep relaxation for 3 days. Booking was very simple using WhatsApp channel and we were lucky to get a 10% discount. Food on day one and two was absolutely phenomenal. Simply delicious. The chefs went out of their way to make conventional dishes and each was perfect. We were put up in the two bedroom suite. It was clean and the beds very comfortable. The shower had excellent pressure and hot water was available 24/7. Having a pool all to ourselves was a big plus. Given that it was just before the festive season, they had music playing all day long at the pool area. Must’ve been awesome for many guests but for us a nuisance as it was difficult to relax with all the noise. The hotel is on a cliff but you can access the beach by descending a few steps. The beach is stunning, clean, expansive with soft white sand. Not as many beach boys as you would find in Mombasa. It was my husband’s birthday and they put a lovely happy birthday decor on the bed before our arrival. Unfortunately when I requested that they sing for him during dinner using a slice of one of the dessert cakes, they declined saying that we had to pay ksh3500 for a cake to facilitate this. I found this absurd given that in all the other hotels I have ever requested for this, they were more than happy to do it without any such limitations. Turn down service only includes putting down the mosquito nets and closing the curtains. They do not replenish used towels nor clean used glasses during this time. We found this weird as all the other establishments we have stayed in take care of this no problem. However if you ask for fresh towels, they are happy to provide them as per your request. At the pool area you get a feel that liberal use of towels is not particularly encouraged. Also note that they do not provide face towels, you would have to request for them to be provided. Once you ask for them on day one, they will continue to provide them throughout your stay. Their towels are very white and in excellent condition/quality. We had three other isolated yet disheartening incidents which I shared with the team during check out. I am happy that the lady who took the feedback took it well and was very apologetic. I am sure that they will be able to address them for the comfort of future clients.
