We had a nice & relaxed family holiday here for 8 nights. The views were to die for, they were just exceptional. The apartment itself was very spacious & clean upon arrival. It consisted of two bedrooms, two bathrooms (one of which was an ensuite to one of the bedrooms), the kitchen/living room area was very big, as was the balcony area. The staff were very friendly, helpful & accommodating. The swimming pools were fantastic, and our kids really loved them. The bar generally closes by 23:00 every night after the entertainment finishes. The entertainers really do their best to ensure that fun is being had! As we are primarily English speakers, I found that most of the staff were not as bilingual as I initially thought, but this is only a minor issue, as they had the bare amount of English to get by & to help. We were fully aware of the €200 deposit before arriving, so this was no issue for us. There was a separate charge of €5 per night (€40 total for us) for parking. Having a car is essential for staying here, as it opens up where you can go every day, be it to the shops or going to another town for dinner. As we had a car, we travelled to Gibraltar (approx 30/40 mins away), and to the most of the towns/ports, it also allowed us to go to different areas to do some food shopping for our apartment. Taxis are readily available I believe on a call but I do not know the costings for them. The cleaning of the rooms was non existent, during our time there, no one came to change the bed sheets, and we went to reception to get some new/fresh towels. They really need to improve on this. The sunbeds by the pool was another issue that can be improved upon, the pool opens at 10:00, and there are generally queues of people waiting in line at the gate ready to pounce & claim a sunbed, then they disappear. This really needs to be watched by staff as it is leaving many families no where to go/sit. They could really do with more sunbeds also! Overall, we had a nice & relaxed family holiday, we knew what to expect with regards deposits, and the need of a car. Take heed to the Tripadvisor reviews as they are fairly accurate feel of the place as a whole.

I would like to say, despite all the big talk from other hotels in the area, this small but very friendly and cute hotel is my favourite. I am from Florida in the U.S. and am used to staying at some very grand hotels but Encinar is just so cute and even more welcoming, I would advise anyone visiting Sotogrande to stay here. That's the good news. However, my rating is just for the hotel and not the area. Other than the great golf courses, there is nothing about Sotogrande that fits the descriptions you read about in the magazines or Google or the advertisements by the realtors. In fact much of what they say is untrue. In particular, although Hotel Encinar is peaceful, Sotogrande, in general is a very noisy place. I have stayed in the hills where building work, cranes and heavy vehicles cause a lot of unwanted noise, unbearable noise that seems to never stop. Much worse than that is in the port where my friends live. They have two houses they are trying to sell and cannot sell because of the continuous noise from the very loud machinery that is used by the gardeners who are relentless, starting at 8 every morning and going on and on all day, every day of the week. Sure they make it look pretty but it's not worth it, the noise never stops. My friends are fraught with stress due to this and the other noise from the private swimming pools all around the resort that are full of screaming children playing with inflatables. No one every does anything about it. The security is just 1 car that goes around but there is no security on foot. They are not able to take their young children even for a walk as most of the roads are built only for cars, there are no sidewalks, only drains or the road (where cars and motorcycles speed) to walk in. The summer in Sotogrande is unbearable now because they have booming, ear-piercing music from live concerts and DJ's that perform from midnight to 6am all through the summer. This place is anything but tranquil. The bars and restaurants are nothing special and there is nothing else to do but play golf. There are no places of interest. You can't get out anywhere without a car, there are no trains and barely a bus. Don't believe what you read about this place. Maybe sixty years ago it was OK but it's now become unbearable. All the people from Marbella descend in Sotogrande for the concerts then hundreds and hundreds of people walk around the beach and streets in the early hours drunk and looking revolting, doing things that make my stomach churn. I feel very sorry for all the property owners who thought they had made a good investment and are now driven from their homes by the downfall of this place. This year was the worst yet. I was talking to some business owners in the nearby village who have had to move away due to the influx of people and the unbelievable noise. Next year, I shall be staying in Malaga and driving down for the golf. I

Just returned last night from the hotel after a week with my friend. The hotel was quiet even though it was busy. No pounding music during the day at the pool, no scraping of plates and movement of trolleys in the main buffet (both which were bliss). Good selection at breakfast including freshly squeezed orange juice, Nespresso coffee (both of which I have had to pay for in other hotels as a supplementary item), and of course cava. We booked half board but usually eat out a few times in the evenings but we enjoyed the choice and ambiance so much (langostines, fresh fish and steaks cooked to perfectio, to paellla with crabs) that we ate mostly at the hotel. The staff were fabulous, we noticed that everyone made eye contact and smiled and greeted you. A special thanks to Christina in the Andalusian a la carte restaurant and Javier, who was always smiling whilst greeting guests and helping with luggage. Our regular cleaner was fantastic and unfortunately I cant remember her name but it began with an A. The hotel is spotless with traditional styling which we loved and the beds were comfortable and we slept well every night. We like to travel when children are back at school so we can have some peace and quiet so this week has been perfect for that. The manager is very visible which was good to see and we spoke to him on our last day to thank him and the staff for a super week. If you want rest and relaxation and tasty food then this is a great destination. Can’t wait to return.

We have just returned from a 9 night stay at the H10 Estepona Palace, this was our first time in southern Spain but we have stayed with H10 before, after a taxi transfer of approximately 1 hour we arrived at the hotel, the hotel lobby was extremely spacious with 2 check in desks we went straight to the Privilege desk as we had booked an all inclusive Privilege package. After a welcome drink we were given information about the hotel, we then went to our room on the 6th floor, the room was spacious and very clean with all the facilities that you would require, there was only 2 things that we would change and those were 1, take out the bath and replace with a walk in shower and 2, remove the sun lounger from the balcony as it only just fit in. The room was kept spotlessly clean with a towel change twice a day. We had requested a kettle for the room and this was delivered after only 10 minutes, great service. There were 2 restaurants in the hotel the Alboran and the Thalassa, the Alboran being the main serving breakfast, lunch and evening meals, there was a great variety of dishes available along with show cooking on the hot plates at each sitting, there was always something to tempt you whether it be the main, salad or sweet stations. The Thalassa restaurant I can't comment on because we did not eat there but I believe it was mainly a snack bar that served a la carte, takeaway poolside drinks were also available. We did have 1 B.B.Q meal outside at this restaurant which was again served a la carte. There were 2 adult swimming pools and 1 children's pool with plenty of sunbeds dotted around, there were also sunbeds on the beach that was adjacent to the hotel just metres away. There were activities during the day for both adults and children, there was also nightly entertainment on sometimes, both outside and inside. There was also a chill out bar from 18:00 to 24:00 with great views out to sea but this bar was not part of the all inclusive package ? The lobby bar served drinks for both inside and on the outside terrace, the staff here were brilliant as were all staff within the hotel, I would like to mention 1 member of the bar staff who gave great service Alvaro Villalon (sorry for the spelling) he is a credit to the hotel. If you book a Privilege package there is also a Privilege lounge with help yourself tea, coffee and both soft and alcoholic drinks. The town of Estepona was a 30 to 40 minute walk from the hotel but we took a short taxi ride due to walking difficulties. Thanks to Angela and Peter for their company, next time you're away, both land and sea look over your shoulder we may be behind you.
