Stayed here a few times, there are great things going for this place but then there are some that definitely need working on. It will never be a 5*. The location is a main factor along with parking (organised by the guest house, plus they can extend your parking once you have checked out £5 for a day) The place is clean and tidy, the room we stayed in was good (needs a bit of tidying up) the bed was very comfy. Shower room was fine. The breakfast room is now located in the basement (glad my sister didn't stay this time as she wouldn't have been able to get down the stairs to it). There is no lift! I think that the policy for breakfast is 'stack it high'. Various cereals, bread, mini pastries, packet ham, salami, 2 variety of cheese but that may depend on the day. (the tastier one was only there one day) jams, marmalade ect... The coffee machine is very slow, and not sure if it dispensers the right coffee at times! Breakfast is in a kitchen diner. Not our liking, don't like to see dirty plates stacked on the drainage board. The majority of the staff are lovely and very helpful. Sadly not all. I had to help a guest work the coffee machine because the woman on breakfast was outside having a another ciggie and another coffee. Chatting to other guests who had been during the previous owners, they said it would be there last time at The Abbey. It's would be great if they would answer emails personally instead of a mail shot. That is such a telling statement. So glad not to have paid full price!
