I’ve been to Cuba over 15 times over the past 20 years and I’ve been to Cayo Santa Maria 5 times. I have to say this beach is my favorite beach so far you can walk for miles, the sand is white and soft almost like flour. The food was pretty good they always had eggs, chicken, pork, rice and coffee and it was actually very good but repetitive always the same food choices… this is fine for the price we paid. The beach and pool snack bars had really good chicken sandwiches. We had butlers at this resort which was a first for us in Cuba I must say I found them to be very helpful with any request we had, we were in building 61. Our room was nice and clean our bed must have been new it was very comfortable! The only thing I thought would need improvement is the bathroom it needs a redo but everything worked well lots of hot water and water pressure. The resort common areas and washrooms really could use some updating. Only one toilet worked in the ladies bathroom and it was never clean I always walked to my room to use the washroom. I think this is my only real issue with the resort. We are not pool people but the pool was very nice and clean there weren’t many people using the pool when we were there the water was a little cool. My husband and I had no health issues but our friends were both sick with vomiting and diarrhea. One of them was very sick and had to see the doctor and went to the hospital when he got home he was severely dehydrated. I’m not sure what they ate but it was bacterial not viral. I did notice some things in the food preparation in the snack bars that looked sketchy…. One sharp knife is used to cut everything meat, bread, vegetables and no running water to wash anything off. But my husband and I were fine and ate everything with no issues.
