We overnighted here after a long journey north and were absolutely delighted with what we found. Our room had everything we needed, was well decorated and spotlessly clean. We had a bath and an overhead shower that produced a good pressure stream of water (not as common as it should be). Downstairs the pub was very busy and having booked a table we were impressed with the wide menu (some pub favourites, a few twists and a list of specials). The food served to other tables looked superb, and we were not disappointed. Good sized portions, superbly cooked, containing local ingredients and amazingly tasty. It’s easy to see why the place was so busy. If you want to eat make sure you book to be assured of a table. The draft beers on offer included Timothy Taylor’s Landlord, and we were served a pint that had clearly come from a well looked after cellar. There is also a good wine list, we stuck to the beer. Staying B&B we were offered breakfast choices, and once again the mixture of superb cooking, large portions and quality food set us up for the day. Special mention should be made of the owner and his team, the friendly and welcoming service enhanced the stay further. Sadly we are not in the area frequently, but would stay again without hesitation.
