Cairndow Stagecoach Inn

We were devastated by our ‘deluxe’ room stay at this Inn Being our Wedding Anniversary, we decided to treat ourselves to a night away in a deluxe room and we were really looking forward to it We were handed the keys to room 2A. What a disappointment on opening the door. Dark and dingy with aged scruffy dark furniture and carpet the same. Window sills needing varnished. It was depressing . However, things took a much bigger downward turn when we opened the door to the bathroom. It too was dark and also windowless, so dark in fact that my husband couldn’t see to shave. There was a huge spa bath in there, so old it had begun to discolour and some of the components were cracked. This was surrounded by old pine cladding and tiles that might have been 1960’s. The sink was minuscule and in a dark corner. When we attempted to turn on the hot tap it swivelled on its axis. It only reluctantly let out a mere trickle of water when the knob was turned the opposite way to ‘on’. It was so desolate and awful one could not even brave the shower which apart from looking clean, had an odd water draining system by which the water would disappear into a small hole in the wall. So no shave and no shower. If the money had not been taken off our card we would have left The one consolation was that we had a nice bar meal and the tap larger was great. We didn’t indulge in a celebratory bottle of wine or fizz as we were feeling very flat by now. We got up early and couldn’t wait to leave. We were a good few miles away when housekeeping rang to say my husband had left his wallet on the bedside table and we had to return for it. It was so dark in there we hadn’t seen the black wallet on the dark furniture in our haste to leave Yes I did voice my disappointment upon leaving. I even asked the man on reception to go up to room 2A and take a long hard look at it and then ask himself if he would pay £149, yes £149 to sleep in it. An aged spa bath with cracked components, a tap that swivelled on its axis and a scruffy small window looking onto water do not constitute a deluxe room and I feel robbed and our anniversary spoilt. However, it makes for a good tale that our friends are certainly enjoying

Friendliest and most helpful staff of any hotel we've ever stayed at. The building itself is a bit tired but the room was clean and comfy. We ate there both nights and the pub grub was good and tasty. Locals in the village would stop and have a chat. Lovely views and an excellent location for exploring the area. All in all a lovely wee break.

Great location for the local Munros. Stayed for 1 night. Very friendly staff and locals! Room was decent. The place is a little dated (but by no means dirty). Lots of character. Would only mark it down for the food. 2/3 star. Also very poor vegetarian options / nothing for vegan.

The staff was very helpful and friendly food was nice . But the bedroom was horrendous as you can see with the pictures . The room did not smell fresh at all it looked very tired and dated . One pillow protector out of 4 pillows . The mattress protector was from a single bed . Very uncomfortable to lie on . The quilt was far too big for the cover & and the fitted sheet did not fit the bed at all. We did raise concerns to a staff member and showed him the pictures of the bedding but we are unaware if he passed the message to the manager because there was nothing done not even an apology . But feel it was very unfair as holiday was not enjoyed the same as felt dirty and disgusted at how dirty our bed clothes we’re of the bed we were sleeping in

After an awful night at Drovers we stayed the next two nights at Cairndow. We arrived early to meet 2 other couples and were pleasantly surprised that we could check in three hours early without having to pay a penny. The rooms were very spacious and well equipped. The views over the loch were fantastic. We had a couple of nights in the bar and the locals and staff helped make it a fantastic evening both nights. We had food on the last night and it was very very good. Now don’t get me wrong. They have a captive audience, but the prices are very good. We had a good couple of nights sleep. The breakfasts were gorgeous. Both mornings I had the full Scottish breakfast and it was divine. Cannot recommend this place enough. Many thanks to all at Cairndow.

I have stayed at the hotel twice within the last 8 weeks and I must say the staff were so friendly and helpful ( both Ian's and Laura) whilst some people may say that the hotel was a bit tired, the warmth of the welcome more than made up for this. We enjoyed really nice food (apart from the steak pie) and a good breakfast. It depends what type of hotel you like, My wife and I really enjoyed our stay and the surrounding area for walks and scenery were just what we like. Maybe it is not everyone's cup of tea, but we will be back. Thanks again to both Ian's and Laura.

We had the best stay at The Stagecoach. They really got us out of an accommodation pickle and we are forever grateful. The hospitality here was exceptional the room was comfortable, but the food was excellent. Particularly the dinner we had last night. Traditional food cooked exceedingly well and so very fresh. Thank you all. We totally recommend.

My wife and myself stayed at Cairndow for one night in May 8th to 9th.We had a chalet room which was absolutely spotless. The evening meal was superb.The breakfast again was excellent. The staff were all helpful and very very pleasant. Highly recommended by my wife and myself.We have stayed at Cairndow twice before and it is always excellent.

We booked a 2 night stay in a Lakeside Lodge room. Ian and the lady serving meals were both very pleasant and friendly. The pub is in a great location and possibly a good bar but accommodation is way below basic standards of a 3 star hotel. Sadly because of my husbands medical condition we had to leave after 1 night. With regard to our Lodge room, the bedroom was very dated. The bedding was unmatched and had seen better days. There were lengths of loose zip hanging from the mattress. You couldn't lock the patio door and the decking was really shabby. A repair had been made to the bulging bedroom ceiling using 2 pieces of wood. The bathroom shower area was covered in a serious amount of black mould as was the grouting. Bits were missing off the top of the towel rail and the toilet flush. The food was deplorable using the cheapest possible ingredients. Our evening meal of Singapore Noodles was almost inedible. We paid just under £400 for1 night stay plus evening meal and 4 pints of beer. We were going to leave after 1 night anyway and with the added distress of my husbands health feel that a little compassion could have been shown. All in all a very disappointing and expensive stopover. We will not be back and definitely cannot recommend.
