Hatteras Island Inn

At a time when many motels are jacking their prices and doing away with anything resembling service the Hatteras Island Inn is a standout. It is always one of the lowest priced stays in town yet it offers good-sized extra clean rooms with all the little amenities that are so often missing these days. Comfy mattress, good HVAC controls, lots of fluffy towels, many extra rolls of toilet paper, a very nice pool - we stayed here last year after fleeing another place that was like camping indoors (awful) and much more expensive. This place was like finding a Mecca of comfort and plenitude.We will never stay anywhere else in Buxton.

A great place near the beach. They also have a cozy poolarea. I gad loved to stay longer! We were here as a family and it was hot weather. Small shops are nearby. Friendly people. The room were also good. Even if it is a bit old it was clean and comfortable.

The hotel was clean, well organized. Everything was top notch. Located 5 minutes away from the beach. One issue about the washer and dryer was: cash only, so we had to go atm which is not very far, and take the cash. Other than that it was awesome relaxing experience.

This hotel was a basic hotel room needing some deep carpet and furniture cleaning. The bed sheets were clean and the bed was comfortable. The small refrigerator was not clean inside. There was a 1 cup coffee maker and microwave. I cannot compare to any other area hotels. It was walking distance to a couple restaurants.

Oh wow, where do I start? Two good things: location - the place is literally steps away from the beach, which was not busy at all at this time of the year. And, there was one person truly interested in helping customers, with a smile, going out of his way - a young man who checked us in. Everything else - pitiful, really. The manager was not returning phone calls, using disrespectful language talking to employees just outside our room, was not willing to even listen to the challenges we encountered (price higher than advertised, wanting to pay separately for two rooms etc.) and refused to give us any other contact information for us to talk to someone else and provide feedback. The place is clearly run down, not clean, the sofa so soft one could hardly get up again once sitting. The hand soap container empty after one day and no one to refill it. The photos show how little management seems to care about the place: loose dirt on the sofa, the old shower curtain rings still hanging on the curtain bar, the fridge dirty (so was the sink and counter)…

I came upon this hotel one night as darkness descended upon the highway. I wasn't sure if there would be any more hotels coming up. So I stopped in Buxton. I noticed the hotel was very clean on the outside, and in the lobby. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of my room. I had a comfortable bed, a microwave, and a refrigerator. The price was right at $66 for the night. I would stay here again. Don't miss Pea Island Nature Refuge nearby.

Really comfortable room - two good beds. More clothes hangers than in many an expensive hotel room. Spacious and warm. Great for a family visiting the Outer Banks. Pool is across from the car park - looked inviting but we were only there for one night. Would have stayed longer if we had had the time.

Please bear with me as this will be a long review because this place deserves it!!! We were on the 7:30 ferry over to Ocracoke and I get a text ( the hotel had tried to call, I didn't hear it due to the noise from the ferry engine) from the mgr at the hotel and I called her back right away. She was calling to let us know about the conditions on the island and what was going on at the hotel. She told us that there was some over wash on the roads and that if we wanted to we could cancel without penalty and that they had already notified *********** to allow this to happen if we wanted to cancel. We called her back once we got to Ocracoke to get clarification of what was going on and we told her that we were on the ferry at the time of the call and could she please tell us what was going on again. She once again explained to us what was going on and we told her we had just literally just got off the ferry and she told us that we needed to get on one of the next to ferries to Hatteras or we may be get stuck on Ocracoke so we decided wth lets go and roll with the punches. We get to the Inn and get checked in and were given a room with a view of the ocean who was quite angry but beautiful at the same time. The housekeepers helped us with our things which was a pleasant surprise. We got settled in and went to lunch at Diamond Shoals that Robin ( Mgr) had recommended and it did not disappoint. We later made out way to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. The room was comfortable, we had a King room with a sofa. the shampoo/conditioner and bodywash is located on the wall on the bathtub ( Carnival Cruise lines does this also, so it wasn't weird to me). The coffee pot was located on a shelf underneath the microwave and above the fridge. We never lacked for space in this room and had a beautiful view. Checkout was a breeze and if I have a chance to go back I will. I live in a tourist area so I know to visit in the off season.

Inn appeared welcoming from outside. We found the inside not as comfortable. Toilet and mirror dirty. Deadbolt was discovered to be faulty late in the evening. No one present to bring concerns to…communication through a kiosk. Bed was comfy enough and that was the central purpose. Busy season so we were unable to move elsewhere during this two night stay. We will not frequent this Inn again
