I booked the 2-night weekend via an external site as a surprise birthday treat for my wife and my daughter and son-in-law accompanied us. On arrival we were greeted by the welcoming smell of a log fire burning in the 16th century fireplace. After the usual formalities at reception we found our room and found that we had a charming double-aspect room with 4-posted bed. Outside a deer was exploring the lawns! The room was very comfortable and had tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was clean and adequate. You have to remember that this a a 16th century building; sloping floors and wonky doors add to the charm. We ate out on Friday evening but breakfast the next morning was all you could want with hot cooked food if desired or cereals, croissants etc offered as an alternative (or addition!). Included in our package was afternoon tea and this was taken on Saturday as our lunch. None of us were keen on the cakes but the sandwiches and scones with jam and clotted cream were devoured with relish. Dinner in the evening was excellent, especially as Spotted Dick was on offer. Our steaks were pretty good. Sunday morning breakfast was a repeat of Saturday's and then it was time to go. Overall, this was a great weekend. I'd do it again anytime.
