The Barge Inn

Terribly filthy with the most obnoxious staff. The verbal abuse received made me recoil in horror. Also, from a professional perspective I would deem the place to be filthy and should be avoided at all costs. Didn't actually decide to stay and eat or drink anything from this establishment, as first impressions are paramount !!

Met friends as it is good location for train travel as well as onsite parking. We all had excellent Sunday lunches, including vegetarian. The service was friendly and helpful. Puddings were good too.

We stayed here for 2 nights. Our room & bathroom were large & spotlessly clean. The bed was comfortable, the towels were soft & fluffy. The pub is in the process of being “done up” but this didn’t affect anything. The staff are very friendly & helpful too. We had dinner here on the first night & the food was absolutely delicious, as was the breakfast we had on the second day. Everything is freshly cooked & beautifully presented . Would stay here again.

Avoid until the owners take note and action on the reviews. Carpets and furniture absolutely filthy. No WiFi. Everything very, very tired. Beer garden shut (which was about the only good thing about the place). Feels completely neglected. An obsession with no parking posters adds nothing to the ambiance.

We stayed here for one night only in a double room. Having read some of the recent reviews we were expecting the worst but, in the end, it wasn't too bad but also not great. We paid £90 for the room only. The room was well decorated and clean but very small indeed with only a few inches on either side of the bed. The bathroom was good and recently redone (we would guess) but it was let down by a very mouldy (and smelly) blind. There was no WiFi available and no phone signal either. The TV (very small) is mounted on the wall but if the bathroom door is open it is obscured. Strangely the double bed was a TV bed so a TV could have been easily mounted in that and problem solved. The room was also sold as having a canal view. This is quite a stretch. The majority of the view is of bins with just the tops of some of the boats on the canal visible. I personally would not sell the room on the basis of a canal view as it will just disappoint. Overall though the bed was comfortable with clean linen and the decor and state of the room was good. I think £90 was a bit steep and I would not have wanted to spend more than one night as there is a tiny amount of storage space and the room is just too small for a double bed.

Looking for a place to eat with the children after a long day at Longleat and spotted this gem. The man behind the bar with the Robin and iris tattoo was so kind helpful and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble to make sure my youngest (20mths) was OK He was knowledgeable on the ales and the foos served waslovely. Really liked the fact there were smaller portions available

The most uncomfortable room we’ve ever stayed in. A double room so small that we couldn’t both move around anywhere at the same time. We discovered one of the problems with the bed was a supporting slat held together with duck tape. It was virtually impossible to find a member of staff .

Beautiful room looking out into the garden, decorated tastefully absolutely spotless. Fantastic shower room and soft towels. I couldn't fault it, wonderful value for money.

What could be a wonderful place just isn’t, it’s tired, so shabby, sticky tables so we wouldn’t want to eat here, we are in the smallest room as that was all that was available apparently so we knew what to expect size wise but the mattress, I.can feel the springs! Some serious money needs spending here and more staff, it’s a very odd place indeed.
