We had a lovely stay at The Old Store Guest House over the weekend. We were there for two nights, with our two children (4 years and 19 months). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay -- we would absolutely stay here again (will look forward to it!), and we would highly recommend The Old Store to anyone looking for accommodation in the area. The B&B is tucked away in a quiet area next to charming villages. (Boxgrove, a few minutes' walk away, has a 12th century priory [now ruins] and a small playground for kids behind the Village Hall. There's a path across the road from the B&B.) There's also a pub down the road where we had a great dinner (2-minute walk, with green space for kids to run around), and even a vineyard! Guests receive a helpful welcome pack when checking in, with recommendations of places to visit and eat in the area. We visited Arundel Castle, which was fantastic. The Old Store felt like a home away from home. It was very clean and comfortable, and beautifully decorated. We stayed in Room 5 on the top floor, which has one large bed and two smaller beds either side -- perfect for families. The room was very spacious; we had ample space for (and around!) our travel cot. The hosts had thought of everything, from little jars of milk from a local dairy (available from the mini fridge in the sitting room on the main floor) to picture books for children, which we found in a basket in our room and which our girls loved (there were also games and puzzles available in the sitting room). I was also charmed by the small hooks on the wall at the foot of the kids' beds, for children to hang their coat or bags. It was all the thoughtful little touches like these that really made The Old Store stand out. Matt was a fantastic host -- very friendly and welcoming, and always happy to chat and recommend places to go (e.g. beaches). He is also an excellent cook. Our breakfasts were delicious, and there were so many choices on offer. My husband had a full English both mornings. I had poached eggs and smashed avocado on toast (2 pieces) one morning, and then scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on toast (again 2 pieces) the next. Needless to say we were too full to eat lunch! (Matt also offered to cook a small breakfast for our 4-year-old, which she really enjoyed.) Guests help themselves to cereals, toast (with jams, etc.), fresh fruit, yoghurts, and coffee and tea. As someone who loves coffee but can't have caffeine, I really appreciated being able to make myself a cup of decaf coffee in the morning with the 'one person' cafetiere! The breakfast room was bright and inviting, like all the rooms. The comfy sitting room is available for guests to use all day. We appreciated having a separate space where we could read stories to our eldest at night, while our youngest fell asleep. Overall, this is a really lovely B&B with thoughtful and welcoming hosts.
