We booked a weekend in one of the suites for our wedding anniversary. Though there was definitely room for improvement in some areas, overall we had a lovely time. However, I'd probably think twice about going again unless it was in a more separate suite or a cottage. First impressions and check in: Its a nice old building with leafy surroundings and plenty of room to park. I thought the rooms would be more spaced out than they appeared to be. The reception was large, and there were two attendents on so we were seen quickly. Our receptionist was very friendly. The decor in the reception was okay, nothing special, but light and airy. It was not so good in the hallways - creaky stairs, no lights, humped floor. The joys of an old building probably, when it comes to weird wonky bits, and that I can forgive, but I am not sure why it was so dimly lit where there were stairs. There were no extra touches that would have put the check-in above some other boutique hotels we've stayed at for the same price. For example, they asked what the occasion was and we mentioned it was our anniversary. In other hotels we might have been offered a complimentary glass of wine to celebrate. Or there might have been some fresh fruit or something to nibble. Things like that are just a nice touch that makes it memorable and whilst I wouldn't expect above and beyond at a premier inn, I would at somewhere with these costs. The room: The room was gorgeous for the most part, and matched the photos. It was very spacious, and the bathroom - which is the reason we chose the room - was amazing. We had an excellent time in the hot tub which was fairly easy to work and came with a mounted TV (Freeview channels). Also the bath was very nice (jacuzzi settings if wanted) and the shower with the seat in was great, very modern. Everything was very clean as well. The only downside in the bathroom was that the TV above the bath didn't seem to have anything preloaded into it (Netflix, Prime etc) and the WiFi was so bad we couldn't get anything on it ourselves either. It would have been nice to sit in the bath with our prosecco and watch a film or something, so that was definitely a down side. The main room could have done with a bit of a renovate. The curtains were dated, the sofa was cheap feeling, and the bed's mattress and pillows were uncomfortable. I didn't get a great night's sleep. The big TV was great, lots to choose from, and the TV over the bed was fine as well. There was an ornamental LED fireplace in the sitting area which would have been nice ambience but we had to keep it off because it was too loud and annoying. The room came with optional fans, hair dryer, a small wardrobe for hanging clothes, clean bins, a mini fridge and tea/coffee facilities which was great. We lacked for nothing essential. The WiFi was not great however, and several times it stalled which is annoying if watching the TV. The breakfast: I don't bother with hotel breakfasts usually but if it's
